I need to figure out a way to support my engine cover when I am maintaining my engine. I was thinking maybe some supports from a hatch back car? Does any one have any pics of there's? Here is mine in the closed position.

carb loads up with fuel after idling through no wake zone

I took the boat out for the first time this morning and it ran great but after idling through no wake zones and then accelerating it would die and only restart with throttle fully opened. It is a brand new remanufactured 2bbl mercarb on a 5.0. Is there a way to adjust for that and it did seem...

Question about a failed pressure test on alpha 1

I replaced my lower water pump assembly and bolter the two halves together. I figured why I had it on the bench I would make a pressure tester and just give it a quick test. Well, it turns out that the pressure drops to zero in about a minute. I used soapy water and could not find any bubbles...

Pink fluid in power trim reservoir?

I thought I read that pink fluid is a combo of automatic tranny fluid and water combined? If that is true I will be trouble shooting the trim cylinders this weekend. What do you guys think about the SEI replacements? thanks

Drain elbow in the bottom of manifold

I got my boat running today which is a great accomplishment for me but I noticed water running out of the drain elbow of the starboard manifold. When I went in for a closer look I was able to just pull it out of the manifold. The P/O overheated it before I got the boat and he must have melted...

    Mercruiser 5.0 starter question

Does it matter if the gear in the old starter was engadged to the flywheel when I removed it and now the new starter gear is not in the engadged position? I guess the old starter is frozen in this position? I am concerned that when I start the motor with the new starter the flywheel may be in...

    Exhaust baffle question

I have a thru hull exhaust and from the riser to tip there is a piece of pipe with a bunch of baffles all at different angles. Are they to make the exhaust a little quieter or to stop water from flowing into the motor. The reason I ask is because one pipe is a little crappy and I was going to...

5.0 riser and outdrive serial numbers

Today I separated one riser from the manifold to see if they needed to be replaced. What do you guys think(it was hard to get a good pic)? The pics make them look worse than they are, I thought they looked ok. How hard would it be to convert to a closed cooling system? If anybody can tell...
