Does it matter if the gear in the old starter was engadged to the flywheel when I removed it and now the new starter gear is not in the engadged position? I guess the old starter is frozen in this position? I am concerned that when I start the motor with the new starter the flywheel may be in the wrong position. Thanks guys

The gear spins out when you start it.
If the bolts lined up go ahead and try it.

The old starter was not supposed to be in the engaged position with no power going to it.
How did the flywheel look?

The flywheel looks good. The old starter was shot, I had to tap it with a hammer to get to start moving. The boat sat for a while before I got it.

Not yet, this weekend. I need a new battery and some other odds and ends before I start it. I am just trying to get a head start on spring.
