    Modern Engine Thoughts

I was in the same boat as you in 2018. I loved my’88 Johnson 30 hp until it it started giving me problems. I struggled and tinkered with it for a few seasons and eventually took it to a mechanic. He took my money and I got back the same old problem. At that point I had just about enough...

    Evinrude/ Johnson 20hp to 30/35 conversion HELP!!

In my opinion, Johny25 has the best documented and helpful thread on the subject matter. See link below. Too bad he moved on years ago. Good luck. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/80s-johnson-evinrude-25hp-to-30-35hp-conversion-with-pics.516146/

    Trolling motor pivot pin

I have a 2005 MinnKota Vector 55 3x trolling motor. The problem I have is the pivot pin (#33) tends to slide out. I just tap it back in place but it’s getting to be annoying. Any ideas to solve this?

Buy now or wait until Black Friday?

I bought a snowblower on “Black Friday” a few years ago. I was first in line at Home Depot at 5am. It was nice chatting with other shoppers while we waited. The doors opened at 6am. I saved $200 on the snowblower. I think those days are long gone.

    Submersible trailer lights

Yes, will keep this in mind. I had the open type submersible bulb tail lights on my old trailer. I liked being able to change out a bad bulb as opposed to the entire light. The new style Optronics LED lights came with my current setup. Again, the manufacturer replaced them under warranty when...

    Submersible trailer lights

Agreed. I had a set of new LED sealed submersible trailer lights that started leaking and take on water. Unfortunately the water didn’t drain. One trailer light failed after one season usage. The manufacturer replaced both lights under warranty but I’m thinking it will be an ongoing replacement...

It wouldn’t hurt to check the torque on those bolts.

    1986 Johnson 30 water pump

Are you running on a hose or a barrel? If in a barrel make sure you have it deep enough in the water. Here’s my old Johnson 30 hp.

    Retiring my Johnson '71 25hp

Congrats. My feelings exactly. You won’t regret it. I had a couple non runners that I sold for a decent price after getting my new motor. Enjoy! jasper

    Winterizing New Suzuki DF25A

Another thought. Any reason why you can’t complete the break in process? That way it would be more beneficial to change the fluids.

    Winterizing New Suzuki DF25A

Yeah I understand what you mean. I wouldn’t chance it though unless I could store it in a warm place.

    Winterizing New Suzuki DF25A

I bought a brand new Suzuki DF30A in 2018. We have winter in Minnesota. Follow the motor storage procedure in the owners manual. Drain and fill the lower unit oil as recommended. No worries about running it every few weeks. That’s nonsense.

    Retiring my Johnson '71 25hp

I was in your position a few years ago. Keep in mind that selling it won’t much offset the cost of a new motor. Good luck with your decision.

Yes. The newer kits have the new style plastic key. Works just fine. No problem.
