    Part identification

That is the adapter module to change from the black stator to the red. You should be able to find instruction on the web, if necessary. If you are swapping out the black stator with the red you will need it. The black is no longer available. The old black stator / system had high and low speed...

    Force piston rings

Different manufacturers have different designs for rings. I forget the manufacturer of premium pistons and rings states that their rings are different from the OEM. Still perhaps not a good idea to mix old and new, unless you are just trying to get it to run long enough to stick it to someone...

    Temperature gauge

You can take the (brown I think, maybe brown and blue) wire loose from the switch and ground it and the buzzer should sound. Often the buzzer either doesn't work or is not loud enough to hear over the motor and wind so some replace it with a LOUD buzzer. It should be located under the dash or...

    Temperature gauge

I have a sensor on my 90 ho Sport Jet in my Hobie Jet fisherman's console. I do not have a Pee Port as you can't see and there is not much pressure to spray it up so that you can see it. I pay attention to it since at idle the Sport Jet has a tendency to run hotter as the cooling water is...

1988 force Full throttle only 3500 rpm

Could easily be a bad connection or wire to one cylinder from the trigger.

    Temperature gauge

Here is a picture with the sensor installed, but it is of the whole engine compartment and perhaps you can expand it to see where it screws in. It is the brass thingy behind the flywheel.

    Temperature gauge

You will find the plug filling the tap just in front of the head on top of the block. IF as I think it is basically the same as the three cylinder 90 hp engine.

1988 force Full throttle only 3500 rpm

Could easily be one dead cylinder.

'95 Force 120 - bottom cylinder not firing

As a quick check I use an induction type timing light.

    Temperature gauge

I have put one on my 1995 Sport Jet 90 which is basically the same block. I used a 1/8" temp sender that was the correct resistance for the gauge in my boat. I checked it by hooking up the sender and ground wires to the sender and putting it in a coke can with boiling water (using a propane...

Thanks to Jerry Jerry for all of his advice. Merry Christmas

I have just supported the little Sport Jet 90 and I have collect a pile of spares since I like the boat and rig. Now it looks like I have a couple of spare engines in a pile, useable, but not perfect. I am keeping them as insurance because if you have a spare you will never need it and just have...

Thanks to Jerry Jerry for all of his advice. Merry Christmas

At 72 I understand completely, but I can't remember all of the words of those songs, but I love it when I hear one. Now to remember if I had breakfast already...

Thanks to Jerry Jerry for all of his advice. Merry Christmas

Jerry, Thanks for all of your advice and help in keeping these old motors going. Your insight has been helping many here get and keep their motors going for years. This is not to diminish all of the others who have contributed as well. I could not have gotten my Sport Jet going without the...

Force 75 threw a magnet at us

If it idles OK and runs at high speed ok the transition from idle to the main jets would be n question. I am not familiar with the 75 HP, but most of the later Force/Mercury run in idle to some RPM and then transition to the main jets. If the jets are dirty or the idle circuits are then they may...

    Intermittent "cough" during startup.

Hell if it starts with no ether starting fluid and just a cough then be happy and smile

Force 75 threw a magnet at us

It is possible that if your timing light flashes along with the higher rpm your problem could be with dirty carbs that are not delivering fuel correctly from above the idle feed at low airflow and the main jet at higher air flow at higher RPM.

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

Let's see 16 -17 bolts and three break off? Closer to 20% break off. That is about right. and the Law of Aggravation says that they will be in the worst possible places. When you replace them and operate in salt water stainless sounds like a good idea, but the stainless sets up corrosion that...

Starter engages the flywheel but won't spin the engine

I tried a cheap starter and the parts were crap. The metal cups that allow the spring to collapse and not bind and twist were soft aluminum and smashed out of shape. The machining of the threads of the spiral that spins the gear up bind and then the gear does not come up. Ant then the shafts are...

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

My experience from sleeving a 90 is that sleeving is probably too expensive, but boring and replacing pistons is not too bad. Check with your machine shop. Plan on $1000 total cost. It all depends on the amount of material that has to be removed to clean up the bores and the size of pistons...

Force 120 Outboard Low compression - rebuild it?

The hardest part would easily ne getting it apart without breaking bolts etc. Heat, Kroil, cursing, and luck are needed.
