    Mercury 650 Rotted Trigger Wiring

Be careful of the metal tab that is over the copper disk don't try to lift it up if you break it off the unit is done - there is a terminal block under the epoxy and I managed to get to 2 terminals on mine; here's how it works:

Can I remove hydraulic trim and use cmc Pt 130

Since you have the pump already - stand the motor body up and let the oil drain out then flush it with a mild solvent (Dawn dishsoap) remove the tank and check for crap (watch out for the little ball at the top of the shaft) but don't disassemble the control valve assem., the end cap with...

Lower unit stuck in forward gear after changing lower unit seals

Fig. 2 is looking into the gearcase without the internals, the only way to check is to remove the bearing carrier and gears, and if its wrong you have to remove the shiftshaft bushing and shaft then install correctly; if the cam is upside down it will just stop at the point where you are trying...

1975 500 Powerhead removal and general work.

Isn't the fitting between the 2nd and 3rd cylinders and the outlet on the lower cowl? If you have to remove the powerhead make sure that you can get the PH to exhaust plate gasket (Nr. 7) because it will be damaged from removal. I would remove the LU because it might have a bearing pre-load pin...

Mark the 3 cyl. disk with an R on the rotor side so when you put it in the new dist. it will be facing the same way. Here's the parts breakdown

1973 Merc 650-spark at coil but not at plugs. Wires check OK.

It sounds like the trigger is faulty, any play in the distributor is no good, the shutter disk could destroy the pickup here are the instructions for removing the shaft - the rotor disk might transfer to your other distributor but a slot has to match with the brass contact on the rotor (you have...

The flywheel will only install on the crank in one position but some people undo the bolts at the hub then reassemble it incorrectly (if your flywheel looks like one in image) - it happened to me, once! Check for paint damage around bolts.

1969 Mercury 650 - Odd Wiring and Solenoid Question

Does that solenoid have a curved mounting bracket, if so it bolts to the starter case - if it has a flat base there should be 2 threaded cast bosses in the lower cowling; you can use this method for deciding what terminal goes where because there are 2 types. The "magneto analyzer" is a VOM.

85 hp 850 drawing power when off

If you can run the motor hook a voltmeter on AC to the yellow wires and see if you get 13-16v output and as well hook up the voltmeter to the red post on the rectifier + and a ground and you should get a DC voltage 13-15v. Here's the method for checking rectifiers

Since you didn't post the year here's a diagram that shows typical wiring, the ground is - with no + leads attached; the small yellow in this case is the solenoid start wire.

Question on a serial number of old Merc 500

Before you start getting into the 50 hp check the distributor bearings by turning the pulley to see if the bearing(s) are seized (arrow) , if they are that's why the timing belt is missing; looking at the condition this motor is in it looks like the motor has been sitting outside without a...

    1977 Merc 850 lower unit.

There's a guide tube (Nr. 35) for the watertube that has to be used to insert into the pump housing check the upper shift and lower splines to see that they aren't hitting - that happened to me when the upper SS twisted, and also it's easier to keep/find neutral with the control hooked up .
