    Thanks What is the bias circuit and you mean the Idle speed control? It sounds like the idle speed control box failed causing the switch boxes to fail. ALSO I found the wiring harness 20 amp fuse blown.

    I noticed loose connections at the switchboxes when I was removing parts from the motor. Also one of the battery cables was frayed exposing copper. Would this be the reason the switchboxes failed? Motor looked like it had never been worked on. Still had the black coating all over it.

    Then do i just use the oem rings? They still look ok. Hate to have to buy ALL new pistons rings etc That will be VERY costly. Of course I will have to have new pistons and rings for the ones that failed.

    What's your best guess as to what happened? I was going on what the previous owner stated and the oil pickup tube blockage. The top port piston was melted and bent. The bottom port piston and cylinder was slightly scored.

    fuel filter part

    I'm not the expert but why not remove that filter from your motor and replace it with a straight hose then add a regular fuel filter to your fuel tank hose. Wal-Mart sells a generic filter for $5 in their marine section. I've used this filter on MANY tanks with great success.

    Ok, everything came apart fine and the block is at the machine shop now. The tech quoted a price of about $800 to SLEEVE to standard on one cylinder and bore another cylinder .015 over.     I gotta pay more attention. Took a quick look and saw some bolts on the INSIDE of the small half of CRANKCASE housing. I'll remove those tomorrow and I'm sure the two halves will part.

    Wow, maybe I missed something here but I thought I had ALL the bolts out. I'll go back and check. Reeds and manifold has been removed but I'll look again. I was thinking maybe the paint was causing it to stick. Yea...i must have left some bolts in there.

    Actually I found a chart online that indicated .006 to .010. I had guessed at .008 before I found that info. It must be correct since the motor starts and runs very well.

    124602-0110-e1 Does anyone know what the GAP is between the flywheel and the coil magnet? I removed it to clean some rust but failed to measure the gap. I'm assuming it's suppose to be a specific gap. I used a .008 feeler gage to set it. Not sure if this is a good starting point or not.

    1990 mariner 8hp two stroke long shaft. How much gear lube do i put in this motor? This motor has a LARGE dia screw on the bottom and a small screw at the top. The other motors I've seen has two large dia screws. I'm assuming I remove both screws and fill from the bottom and stop when oil leaks...

    I'll answer my own thread. Removed the pull starter then loosened the 17mm flywheel nut then removed the three m6x1 screws. Attached a puller using the three m6x1 and it poped off easy.     Ns3.5a 66531 Pulled the spark plug and laid it against the block to check for spark and am getting intermit spark. Mostly no spark. Need info on how to get to the points to check. Does anybody have this info?
