vertical guides / goal post style guide question

I made a set of goal post style trailer guides out of an aluminum ladder stabilizer and PVC. It doesn't look to much different than "real" ones I have seen. How close do you mount them? There is some flex, should they be tight to the boat and flex as I pull in, or should I stay off like 2" on...

Should I change from rollers to bunks? 18' tin

I don't particularly like bunk trailers, but after sighting my 18' tin starcraft it looks like the tiniest arc might be forming around the rollers on the starboard side. I did have a lot of snow weight on it this year. It's not a problem yet and might even be temp flex due to the boat sitting a...

    Bearing buddies coming loose

When you change trailer bearings, how do you keep the bearing buddies, or Grease cap, or dust cap from falling off. I haven't changed any in a few years but I remember this was an issue. I pulled the cap from my current trailer today, greased the old bearings and sure enough the cap slightly...

Need a new combo unit, possible lowrance hds7 touch

I need a little confidence in choosing my first combo unit. I was going to get the raymarine dragonfly (under $700) then decide to wait for the dragonfly 7" (around $850 -900) now the lowrance hds7 touch with structure scan can be had for 1200 after a mail in rebate, I've been leaning toward...

Gunwale rod holder, reels rubbing on walls

I'm about to build rod storage under the gunwale of my aluminum starcraft, with most racks I have seen it looks like the reels will be rubbing against the walls. What's the normal solution to this? I was thinking either add a little padding on the walls so the reels aren't banging as hard, or...

Do electronics blind you at night?

I looked at an android tablet last season and was temporarily blinded during night boating. I'm going to buy a decent combo gps/ff unit this year and was wondering if night vision is ever an issue, or do they all have that covered for the most part? I currently have an old cheap back lit...

    Ride comparison : 18' vs 21+

Just wondering how much of a difference the ride is. My 18' handles waves decent, but I take quite the beating in chop. Is a 22' tin a significantly better ride? How about a 25'? I know some of you have had multiple starcrafts. I have only one...fighting the addiction :D

Re: 18' 1969 Offshore V restoration I haven't owned many other boats but the hole shot feels excellent to me I may have already said this, but my old boat sat so low in the water the prop had to really dig itself out of a hole. This one just zooms right along so nice. I'd like to try another...

Spray rail/splash guard on an old starcraft?

Has anyone here needed or tried a spray deflector on their older starcraft? A product like the TACO spray rail, smart rails , or even a DIY setup. I have a 1969 18' offshore v (as some of you already know). I've only tested it twice now, both times it was a little choppy out, but I was...
