    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

YES, or you'll hear air coming out those two small holes at the back of the housing

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Yes, that makes more sense. It should have been coming out the "big hole" at the thermostat. It's more likely the problem is in the head water passages because they get much hotter than the block passages, and they're typically smaller too. So any dissolved solids in the water (salts...

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Here another edited pic that lines up some of the notes I've used (especially "big hole", littler hole" and "tiny hole") with where there are on the flow diagram.

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

This is not correct. There is a path from the cooling jackets IN THE HEAD that goes out the exhaust. That's where the MAJORITY of the water should flow and where the MAJORITY of the cooling takes place. The telltale is a BYPASS around that process and just to let you know that the water...

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

The bypass connection DOES NOT go through the block... it BYPASSES it.

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Block the TINY hole at the bottom, put air in the smaller of the two at the top (the big one is the INPUT to the thermostat, the smaller is the OUTPUT from the thermostat).

    Honda outboard BF 15

If the carb was recently cleaned, then either something is wrong with the throttle linkage (holding the throttle butterfly partway open) or if someone actually messed with the screws on the throttle butterfly they might not have the butterfly centered properly so it can close all the way.

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Oh, and just to clear up a couple earlier comments... that engine will cool JUST FINE even with NO thermostat. It might run COOLER than it's supposed to, and take longer to warm up, but it will not overheat just because it doesn't have a thermostat. It is likely that a previous owner removed...

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Here... I've edited one of your pics that might help explain what's going on. You either have blockage from the BIG hole back into the block somewhere, or from the littler hole into the head somewhere. You said you put air into this littler hole and some came out from the tiny hole at the...

    Honda BF75L cooling water issues

Those two little holes are "vents" that allow air BACK IN to the exhaust so that a cooling exhaust won't suck water up the exhaust and into the engine. You would not normally see water coming out of them. There is water coming out WITH the exhaust but that gets routed down and discharged at...

Can you change a Tohatsu 9.9 hp to 20 hp?

You need to find out if YOUR motor has a carb of if it's EFI with an ECU. THEN you can look at options. If it's EFI with ECU then Paul earlier described your options. If it's a carb motor, you do have an option to get to 15HP but likely won't get to 20. And you have to be careful on those...

I thought the OP had a carb'd motor?

Can you change a Tohatsu 9.9 hp to 20 hp?

I think you can get the 9.9 up to 15 with a carb change. On the older 9.9 you could go to 15 with just the carb change, or up to 18 if you also did the cam. Does your boat get up on plane at 12MPH? If not, then the 15 might get you up on plane which would increase speed quite a bit. If...

Connected Battery Backwards. What's the Damage?

Blown fuse probably for sure. Likely he might have fried the voltage regulator, so check the charging voltage if you get it started and running.

How can I find worth and year of my motor?

All depends on what motor you have. What brand? What model? Many times the actual year of the motor doesn't matter AT ALL. For value purposes, it's more the shape the motor is in and how well it's been taken care of. For a lot of parts and maintenance, especially for Tohatsu, the...

    Year of manufacture help please.

Can't tell exactly (and not really sure why you'd need it especially just for a prop), but that serial number corresponds to an owner's manual with a copyright of 1990... so I would guess it would be within a couple years of that.

    Honda BF7.5 won’t idle, so far I’ve

If your float bowl has a drain, then after the engine quits you drain what's remaining in the bowl. Do it once when the engine is running right so you know how much to expect, then when it quits you drain it and compare to that amount. When you flip the carb upside-down, typically the float...

    Honda BF7.5 won’t idle, so far I’ve

Did you soak the carb? There are passages inside for the low speed circuits and if they're plugged it won't idle either. The inline filter... if you orient it vertically then it should fill all the way. If it's horizontal it won't be able to get the air out of the top half, so it will always...
