Connected Battery Backwards. What's the Damage?

I am heading out shortly to help a friend who hooked up his battery backwards.
2005 Honda 20 hp
Before I get there, do you have any direction you could give me as I approach; what to expect, what to look for, any fail-safe devices, etc., ...?

fried wires, blown fuses. hopefully he unhooked as soon as he realized. maybe no harm or a lot of fried wires. good luck.

Blown fuse probably for sure. Likely he might have fried the voltage regulator, so check the charging voltage if you get it started and running.
