Block sealant...in a raw water system

Only visually when I had it open to reseal it and check clearances. No water in the oil at all.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Clever idea. I made my carpet template out of the carpet. Q: will your passenger seat have enough room to swivel around and face rearward? Like for watching a skiier.

Block sealant...in a raw water system

Hmmm. That would sick to spend over $300 stitching that only to have a head gasket fail and need the block decked. It's a slippery slope. But just to be clear, the Lock-n-Stitch pins draw the metal toward the pin, not wedge it away. Video HERE I haven't winterized it yet, and hope to take it...

Block sealant...in a raw water system

I'm also looking into "stitching" with the Lock-N-Stitch system. I may be able to fix it that way for a few hundred bucks and not have to remove it, let alone tear it down.

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

Yes. My father and I used to go to the Philadelphia Boat Show at the Philadelphia Civic Center each year when I was a kid. I remember falling in love with a 16' bow rider and daydreaming about riding around with my friends in that. (1972-ish) I finally have my bow rider. :) I wish I still...

Block sealant...in a raw water system

But it actually IS pressurized. Hear me out: 1. There is a restrictor plate at the outlet end of the exhaust manifold that holds the raw water back a bit. I assume that is done to keep water in full contact with the inside of the manifold. 2. The pump impeller speed increases with rpm, and...

Block sealant...in a raw water system

I tried CRC (K&W) Cooling System sealant this weekend. It did nothing at first, but then suddenly stopped the leak. But then it started again. And then it stopped. It started back to leaking as the thermostat opened up and I shut it down. I only needed half a bottle of that, so I still have...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

You need to enter it in a boat show before you put it in the water. It's going to be awesome!

Block sealant...in a raw water system

I did grind and acetone before the JB weld. Even put some fiberglass window screen it it for good measure. I did it in one pass, though. Not layered like he mentioned. I'll try this K&W. See if it seals from the inside. It says I only need half a bottle of that snake oil for the system...

Block sealant...in a raw water system

Lately, I have been trying to "block seal" the small leaks in the outer water jacket of my 3.0L. It was the engine that came with my restoration project, and had typical cracks from lack of winterizing by the person who gave me the boat. I found the main cracks during the overhaul, and I brazed...

Rehab SportCraft 222 1983 deep V hull cuddy walkaround

I built a steel-framed camper, covered in aluminum. Condensation was awful every evening when I was out there working, as soon as it got dark and cooled off quickly. The problem went away once the insulation went in.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

Here's a link to my early prop size figurings. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/bought-this-boat-with-no-prop-where-to-start.727585/ The lower unit is definitely the later (1993) OMC Cobra 3.0 setup that used the same lower unit as the v6. Not the smaller lower unit with the 1" shaft. I...

Good point. I needed and excuse to buy a hand-held tach, anyway.

3,000 was wide open. I need to verify that the butterfly is actually wide open when the control is all the way forward.

    Building a '93 Caravelle 1750 Classic Bowrider

I finally got out for another test run and was blessed with fantastic weather. Getting it running right is the final step in this complete restoration. The '93 1750 ran the best ever, so far. 3.0L OMC. 19P x 14.5 aluminum, 3K rpm gave me 35 mph. I have a 17P I can try next, but mainly I was...

1981 Sportcraft 270 repair underway - transom, stringers, & repower

Good progress! I hope the weather holds out for you. I had one thought/concern about the drain where the stringer meets the transom. I understand the logic behind it, but wont that also allow water to get INTO the outer sections as well as out of them? Would it be better as an...

1987 Power Play XLT-185 - floors, stringers, and upholstery

I made a terrible mistake by replacing my distributor module with an unbranded one. It caused me allot of headache. I hope you bought a top shelf part and kept the original as a spare to keep in the boat. When they quit, they are DONE. Edit: Looks like yours is just a pick up. Also, on the...
