I just installed new heads, manifolds and risers in my 5.0 MPI with bravo 3. Cylinder head had a cracked in the exhaust seat, hydro lock motor. All back together now. I wanted to install a fresh water flush. I installed a tee on the intake side of the pump. The plan was to put a ball valve in so I could prevent the pump from sucking in salt water. It was impossible, there's was no.room to get the valve in, and were I could put it, it would impossible to access it.
So my question is if city pressure is 60 pounds and the pump puts out 20 pounds, will the city water overpressure the pump and prevent it from sucking up any salt water?
If the pump will still suck up salt water, I was thinking of putting a tee on the discharge side of the pump, and take the serpentine belt off and run the engine. I'm assuming the water pressure will be strong enough to circulate on its own but I could be wrong.
3rd option will be a seacock pickup, but that would have to be installed in the middle of the boat.
Thanks

Might save space using a 3 way ball valve.
You might also look at locating it back by the PS cooler where the water comes up from the drive. That way water would still go through the PS cooler while running.

If I putting another tee in on the discharge side, I was putting the tee right before the cooler

What does your coolings system look like. I was assuming hose comes out of transom housing goes through power steering cooler then into the pump. Is your set up different?

1 1/4 hose out of transom to intake (suction) side of pump. Then 1 inch out of discharge(pressure) side out pump. The 1 inch goes into a metal tube where the pressure sensor is, which then leads to oil cooler and then feeds motor.

blocking water flow to / from pump will smoke the impeller.

Taking the serpentine off will disable the engine circ pump. Not a good idea...

Every Bravo I have worked on, the transom water goes to pump, THEN to the oil cooler.

Must have 2 valves
One to shut off intake from drive and other to connect hose to

Something like the webstone ball valve
