I recently purchased what I thought was a 6.2 L
Mercruiser motor.
On the tag is: 2a586082
I can not find anything to identify manufacture date or anything that helps..
Anybody that can give me any information

Supposedly it came out of a 2022 ski boat

Being the serial starts with 2A, the year probably is in the suggested year range.

I'm able to tell 2A586082 is a MIE 6.2L 320 TOW EC 4R RW MS 46IV 6.2L MP Model Number 3A620070V.

To find Merc parts and part numbers for your engine model, you may have to input the serial number in the following parts link near the top of the page as it's pretty much the only online website that shows the latest engine models like yours,
https://public-mercurymarine.sysonl...est&NA_KEY=NA_KEY_VALUE&langIF=eng&langDB=eng

@Yegboats might be able to help some too with the year. ;)

Just looking at the block, it's one of Mercruisers own designs for the 2014 and later 6.2

Ok makes since why my vortec carb intake won't even close to fit..,
My question is will any sbc heads work for this block?
No. The only heads that fit are the Mercruiser heads

The only intake that fits is the Mercruiser intake. However you could weld up a sheetmetal intake for the carb. Then you have to figure out the ignition

So someone replaced the long block in the ski boat? Looks like a water level line is half way up the oil pan ?

as mentioned above this is after merc went away from GM based engines so nothing sbc with fit it and no aftermarket parts are available

Most likely a submerged hurricane boat salvage

If you're dead set on using this motor, you can pull the oil pump stub shaft to run a traditional distributor. Not sure if Mercruiser used a standard SBC cam/pump drive gearset

You will need to fabricate the intake

Since this motor was born as MPI only, the cam is not ideal for carburetion, however it will work

The lifters are most likely GM LS lifters if you don't have them

You do need a Mercruiser Flywheel.

The internals look great. Don't think it was ever submerged.

Why was it janked from the boat ? Tree fell on it
It was a warranty job they pulled the motor and put another crate motor in without trying to find the cause. Only thing I found wrong with it was a pushrod had a crack in it and looks like a rocker had failed.no damage anywhere else in the motor,,( bad material used ,faulty part,, ) not sure

Now just trying to figure out how to make it work for my boat or turn it around and sell it. Only paid 800 bucks for the motor that he said had not even 100 hours on it, "" ran when pulled but,had a miss and a tap"" insurance job for sure but if I can make it work,it'll be a upgrade from my merc 305 in my deckboat..

Makes sense that they just put in a new long block. Surprised merc don’t take it back as a core. The issue you will run into is are the peripherals needed to make it a running engine are all proprietary parts. I’m assuming you were thinking it was vortec based? Maybe the factory intake could be machined for a carb base and an ignition could be figured out ?

That was the plan,, I found a custom intake design and maker in North Carolina so I think that will solve my fuel issue but now that you mention it..the ignition side of it might be an issue ,yes I thought it was a vortec style I could just slap in a hei and a carb intake throw it in the boat and go down the river..
