'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Blowers done, stern light done, gas fill cap and gas line done, tach is now at the right speed (still a little uncertain but we'll see), and wiring is done! Better pics to come, but here's the starboard side. Rivets were enough to suck down the blower vent caps... -John

    Tach Calibrate

Hi friends, So experienced a weird anomaly today... We finally got the engine running (huge thanks to everyone here!), and it's in the boat. Set our Faria tach to the #1 position correlating to a 4 cylinder engine, and it's reading ~2300RPM. thought that's weird. Borrowed my friend's photo...

Engine is now having trouble shifting into neutral. ugh. Will probably adjust the choke back a little and see if choking it helps. At idle, is the choke slightly closed or fully open? I've read running on muffs makes it difficult to control temp so it's possible that is contributing to the temp...

We didn't make it into the water :/ Now shooting for Saturday again... the fuel sender didn't match the holes on this tank... so we got 3 screws in as well as we could, and used 5200 around the edges to prevent water vapor intrusion. It's a 12 gallon tank, so we're looking to upgrade in the...

    '76 Mercruiser shift cables

Hi all, S/N: 4445247 (Mercrusier R Drive) Apparently '76 was the year they shifted from a 5 7/8" lower shift cable adjustment to 6". The previous owner appears to have mixed and matched hardware. The current lower shift cable uses a brass cylinder nut to anchor in place. Which length would...

Added a 12V outlet and 2 USB plugs... located next to radio. One is 1A the other 2.1A, so basically one person can charge their phone and the other gets a trickle charge. Have a lot of stuff on 1 16AWG ground running from starboard to port. I have it fused at 20A, so we'll see if it blows. If it...

    Engine allignment Merc 120

Well we did it! Alignment went well.... but we did have to back out the lock nut a little. Instead of torquing down to 25 ft-lbs, we actually had to raise the rear by maybe 3/4 turn to get the alignment bar to slide in. Once we had that done, we had fairly even spline marks top and bottom. Not...

Huge progress! Trim pump in! Although I think I have it hooked up backwards.... so we'll flip 'em. Dual batteries fit, but need to start thinking of what battery tray can I fit back there. 2" of space between the edge of the deck and the hydraulics. And sterndrive in!!! The alignment with...

Anchor caddie and bow cap installed. Also attached the bow deck 1x4" supports to the aluminum. We bout those green/red LED strip lights for bow markers. those'll go under the rub rails. already have 2 holes drilled in the boat :'( from previous construction of course, so we'll route the...

More progress. Use the mechanical connectors for LED strip lighting. It saves SO much time. We also got the new bushings in and our old ones were DEFINITELY sagging. Easily the reason why our engine coupler wouldn't go in. And here's how I pulled the bushings in. Used a 7/16" rod and 2...

    Engine allignment Merc 120

Ok well we got them in last night! Not without a little metal shavings, but it's looking rock solid. I installed the spacer about 1mm below the actual ridge it is supposed to rest against. Then used the 2 sockets with an ocassional whack from a rubber mallet to get them to continue spinning...

    Engine allignment Merc 120

ok we got the bushings out... it SUCKED. This is why people buy presses I guess. So we're having difficulty getting the bearings *in* without them going cockeyed... Is it possible, in a layman's garage (we have a SWEET collection of harbor freight tools. The greatest.) to press these bearings...

Still having problems with the LED strip lighting I did. I think the problem is using 16 AWG wire. Whenever the wire moves it really pulls on that small solder pad. You can see starboard is off but port is on. Trying to determine best course of action to fix. Right now, I'm at cutting to the...

We're still in it... barely. Running on fumes Antennas installed. They'll be just in front of the windshield. Hopefully the VHF dosen't whip the windshield too hard. If it does, we'll add foam. Radios mounted. They're in there SOLID but still removable. Mounted them level with the floor...

Interior lighting halfway done... the white lights are being finiky. Soldering to the led strip lighting is super difficult and I may have not done it well.... Main disconnect installed + circuit breaker for all the auxillary equipment. Need to add 1 breaker for the alternator and battery...

    Engine allignment Merc 120

Hi friends, Continuing the epic saga. We got the engine in, phenomenal. Went smooth. Getting the allignment tool in there has been problematic. It continues to hit the top of the splines. We moved the front nut all the way up and down trying to adjust pitch; still hitting top of splines. From...

'76 Holiday i/o 18' Fishing Rebuild (pic heavy!)

Getting Closer!!! Started raining, so we set up a "dirty zone". You take your shoes off on the pink foam, and then step onto the boat deck. keeps everything clean. Dash in & hydraulic switch attached. Fit PERFECT. Camera angle makes the dash look skewed but when you're sitting down it's...
