Oil change interval, synthetic or no, curious what we all do

Synthetic oil vs. regular oil is an ongoing daily discussion/argument across dozens or hundreds of websites. There is no single correct answer. Rather than over think this and argue back and forth, the best approach is to simply follow the recommendations in the owners manual. Just follow the...

How much did a 2008 19' alumaweld stryker sport jet cost brand new in 2008?

It really absolutely makes no difference what the 15 year old boat cost new. Zero, nada, zilch difference. But for what it’s worth I bought a brand new Alumaweld with a 115 hp merc ob in 2004 (or maybe it was 2005) for $28,000 as I remember. Yours would have been a little more since it was...

    Wheel Bearing Inspection Interval

Depending on usage I inspect, replace bearings if required and repack every other year. Every trip I inspect inside and outside wheels for grease leakage. A couple times a year I jack up each side of the trailer , spin the tires and check they are not too tight or loose and that there is no...

Best diet to lose the gut!!??

There have been thousands of books written concerning various diets. But when it comes to weight loss diets they work until they don’t. Almost all dieters start a diet, lose weight but after a week, or month or year start changing back to old habits and often gain back all their lost weight and...

"Christmas staff fund charge" on my marina bill?

Here’s my take on this. I agree it’s wrong of the marina to charge the tip or staff fee and I would voice my opinion to management. I probably wouldn’t pay it but for sure I wouldn’t spend more than a few seconds dwelling on it. I’ll bet you spend many many thousands a year on your boat...

Enough gas to get back to the ramp

When I had boats that had portable tanks I always carried a second tank. They were either the same size as my primary tank or slightly smaller. Never ran out of gas and never worried about it. Otherwise as mentioned above definitely use the 1/3 rule.

    I hate winter

Lots of great and fascinating information here. This old fisherman has learned a lot. Thank you sir. Interesting the differences and similarities east coast vs. west coast. 20 rods on planer boards. I wouldn’t even attempt that, it would end up being a major tangled mess. Here each fisherman can...

    I hate winter

I agree to chase stripers gotta like the cold and nasty conditions. I’m a duck hunter too, now there are some cold nasty conditions. My wife is from Pa. originally and we travel back there almost every year. I’ve been wanting to fish (with a guide) the Chesapeake for stripper for years. Will...

    I hate winter

Stripers in all of the west and west coast are called strippers, linesides or striped bass and are also called that in parts of the east coast. Primarily out here they are referred to as striped bass, thus we call them and consider them bass. In the California delta which is over 1000 miles of...

    I hate winter

Striper are bass and like a little warmer water than trout. When the water cools down in fall and winter the striper go off the bite. They aren’t as aggressive and won’t move far to chase bait or bait fish. If you are using bait you need to get it close to the fish. Also I find adding some kind...

Whats your system for dockside mooring covers

Agree with the others. I’ve had custom made covers (made from Sunbrella) on all my boats. Not inexpensive but worth every single penny. Get a custom made cover.

    Is this dealer legit??

Boats are like real estate in that you shouldn’t buy one unless you stand on it or in it and actually view it first hand in person.

    Herters boats

Herters was like Cabelas or Basspro in the outdoor industry. They sold mostly hunting equipment and apparel, also fishing and some boats. They were best known for their waterfowl products. Their hunting products were top quality. I still remember them and still have a couple of their products...

    Truck for towing

The 4300lbs is dry weight but dry weight does not always include engine weight. In your case 4300lbs. sounds light to me for that size boat. I’m doubting the engine is included. In any event you want to use wet weight when determining what tow vehicle you need. The wet weight includes...

registering an abandoned boat in CA

You can’t legally take possession of that boat or register it In California. The property owner cannot just give it away. 2015 Dodge Grand caravan SE trailer wires installation failed

Will just have to agree to disagree. I hook the trailer to the vehicle and then get it to the point where everything works properly, lights, wiring etc. Then I disconnect trailer from vehicle. If there are then any problems with the lights then you know it’s 99% a ground problem. Since you now...

2015 Dodge Grand caravan SE trailer wires installation failed

Sorry but I’ve seen this problem numerous times over the last 50 years on trailers supposedly wired correctly. One of them mine, a dozen friends and others. Sometimes the ground wire is faulty or weak ground. In any event it’s a good idea to hook up the trailer and vehicle when wiring. After...
