    1964 MirroCraft Restoration

My Cherokee was an empty hull just like your MirroCraft. being as I have no way to upholster, I bought a couple of the white retro looking loungers off of e-bay when they were a deal. Do you know for sure what the original seat configuration looked like? I would find out and duplicate it if...

Cherokee Boats by Mckenzie Boat Manufacturing Company

Biggest expense, other than the motor, was the lounge seats off of ebay. I had to cut the plastic mounting boxes way down and reinforce to get them low enough to look right. Here are a few pics of her out on the Missouri River- a little bit daunting for me as a newbie and all 1965 equipment...

Cherokee Boats by Mckenzie Boat Manufacturing Company

Used steel wool and Mothers on all the aluminum bump rail and trim. Pics of the re-assembly including new windshield gasket. Amazing how well the windshield itself held up to all those decades of exposure!

Now for the best part IMHO of any project- PAINT and CHROME. I shot the paint over the course of a few days and I am very proud of the results with a $40 gun. Not show quality but really gets a lot of looks. The chrome came back great and the original pieces shined up great. Added plenty of...

Cherokee Boats by Mckenzie Boat Manufacturing Company

The first pic is of the Nautalloy Aquabird hardware that I mentioned in the earlier post. I splurged and sent it to the chrome shop about and hour away. luckily the original spotlight and transom handles were in nearly perfect shape! I know that there are a lot off shots of the boats masked...

Cherokee Boats by Mckenzie Boat Manufacturing Company

Finally had time to post a few re-shots of a Cherokee project I finished a couple of years ago. My original photos will not load onto the forum ( i tried re-sizing and still error message), so the photos are screen shots of the originals. The pics quality is good enough to help someone...

ID my boat! 1957 Starcraft Speedster?

BTF- Fabricating the front seat set up with out a pattern to work from would be a pretty big challenge and take whatever dollar amount that you think it will take for materials-then double it, if you are going for authentic woods. IMHO. The metal cap that covers the seat back would be very...

1959 Starcraft 16' Super Constellation - Winner 2016 Starmada SOTY Award

Thanks LD! Here are the pics that I tried to put with last post. Just too cold to heat the shop for the 3rd coat so I tried to buff the windlass anchor mount and attached it with stainless screws. The bow light is just setting in place for show.

1959 Starcraft 16' Super Constellation - Winner 2016 Starmada SOTY Award

Finally had a few minutes tonight to do some more sanding to get the seat back wood shaped so that the aluminum seat tops will fit snugly. Loosely fastened the components and tried to snug everything together with clamps and strap to find the sweet spot where everything fits reasonably well...

1959 Starcraft 16' Super Constellation - Winner 2016 Starmada SOTY Award

Had some time to work on the Mahogany seats for the SC. Luckily a PO had covered the entire wooden front seat area with a piece of blue vinyl. Hey, was better than nothing! This protected the wood enough for me to save all of the seat support wood and preserved the seat back enough for me to...

Re: 1970's 16 ft Aluminum Mackenzie Runabout Rebuild Re: 1970's 16 ft Aluminum Mackenzie Runabout Rebuild Finally took the time to read your whole thread. Nice work on that transom and especially removing all of the FG from the hull- not too many would have had the patience to get to where...

1965 Mercury 500 Lower Unit Catastrophy

Re: 1965 Mercury 500 Lower Unit Catastrophy You were correct Racerone. I took the unit off and water followed by 2 ice cubes came out. Maybe the impact caused the leak or maybe had nothing to do with it. Broke the nut and the bearing carrier which are still available, but did not break...

1965 Mercury 500 Lower Unit Catastrophy

First post in this Forum Last Fall I had my 1965 Mercury 500 on my restored 1965 McKenzie and hit a rock dike in the river. Although it shook the motor pretty hard, the only damage appeared to be a chip out of the skeg? (prop protector). We went directly to the dock and loaded up and...

1959 Starcraft 16' Super Constellation - Winner 2016 Starmada SOTY Award

Re: 1959 Starcraft - About to start restoration Re: 1959 Starcraft - About to start restoration I have some nice aluminum channels that I looked at for making a cap but talked myself out of it because of the curve of the top of the transom. IMHO Nothing about this boat was designed to hold...

Re: 1959 Starcraft - About to start restoration Re: 1959 Starcraft - About to start restoration Installed the re-furbished transom and old school aluminum "backer plate?". A PO must have constructed this transom of very solid yellow pine not too long ago. Even used all stainless hardware...

    Automotive clearcoat over spar urethane?

 Working on a 1959 StarCraft with oak gunwales. I have stained and applied spar urethane the gunwales before installation. Also painted the boat with Dupont Nason before application of gunwales. The boat is white with turquoise accents similar to its original colors. The guy at...
