Well, I guess I screwed that one up, but thanks for the workaround Chris. I'll give it a go once the cable gets here. Thanks again.

Going To Replace Shift Shaft Seals on MC-1 Today...

OK, I could use some advice here. I've got the stern end of the shift cable broken loose, but when I try to loosen it further, I feel the cable starting to bind. I believe I found the engine side end of the cable, so I disconnected it from the plate. I still feel the cable binding when I try to...

Going To Replace Shift Shaft Seals on MC-1 Today...

Yeah, it was pretty dang easy as well. Just a couple of whacks and it split clean in 2. Got the old seal out as well quite easily. What's proving problematic is the shift cable. I broke it loose, but as I turn it counterclockwise, the whole cable is turning. I'm thinking having someone climb in...

Going To Replace Shift Shaft Seals on MC-1 Today...

Hey all, So per the suggestions here in this forum, I'm going to replace the old shift shaft seal on my MC-1 with the newer design. The screw on the lever is seized and I saw a youtube where the guy states to just whack the lever w/ a cold chisel and split it. Since I have the new lever (bought...

    Ready to Install Outdrive, However...

So Chris...Can this procedure be performed with the bellhousing in, or is it prudent to remove it and then replace the seal?

    Ready to Install Outdrive, However...

That's exactly what it is. Having never worked on a sterndrive, I did not know what it was. But I see the new one in the kit I purchased. I'm learning thanks to y'all.

    Ready to Install Outdrive, However...

OK, so I've replaced the impeller, water pocket cover, oil seal, flow tested both upper and lower housings...now I'm ready to install the outdrive back onto the bellhousing. Before I do, I've noticed this on the bellows(?) and it has me concerned. I mean, when I reinstall the outdrive, won't...

MC-1 Back Together, Temp 175 Fahrenheit?

So this time I'm not leaving anything to chance. Before I install the new impeller, I figured I would do a flow test on the lower housing BEFORE it's installed along with the water pocket cover and close it up. Looks like I have good flow... Lower Housing Flow Test

Did you inspect the water pocket cover when you replaced the impeller? I made that mistake my first time and had to open it back up. Won't make that mistake again. Heh.

MC-1 Back Together, Temp 175 Fahrenheit?

So I received my water pocket cover kit yesterday and cracked open the stern drive, removed the old one and it really didn't look too bad. Of course, I would gladly defer to you folks for your thoughts on it. Pics below. I pulled the impeller as well even though I just replaced it. The question...
