    Starcraft Holiday 18 make over

Are there still plans to add kneebraces? I'd probably go the v5 route and tie them directly to your beefed-up stringers. @Watermann can probably get you some good close-ups. IIRC they tie the splashwell/transom/stringer together.

    Starcraft Holiday 18 make over

Welcome and thanks for sharing that amazing transformation! That original transom skin was rough; started life as an I/O I presume but took a wrong turn somewhere. You may get a few PMs about that transom corner trim piece; another old starmada member fabs them out of plastic. Are you...

    19?? Starcraft Jetstar

Wow, good question! Sorry if I sound like Captain Karen but I think that the glass smashing thing around the docks should be avoided. Westmarine advisor has an article on it...and it looks like they make a bottle for the ceremony that breaks easily & the glass is captured in fine mesh.

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

Mine has scoring (on #1) and has good/matching compression (and was a total basket case at the time of purchase.) Think of your running engine as an opportunity to cut your 2-stroke teeth on; get it dialed in and it may run like a scalded ape...it sounds like you're close. Lastly, try to use...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

(I'm not familiar with your experience level so apologies in advance if I sound condescending!) Since the lubrication on a 2 stroke relies solely on fuel delivery, clean carbs are super important esp on a multi-cylinder / multi-carb engine. if 1 cylinder is running lean (starved of...

My First StarCraft; 1975 18' SuperSport

MMO: marvel mystery oil. I've never seen/heard anyone do this...so very limited "clinical" data on it other than "works for me & my OCD" 🤪! Yeah the choke thing can be tricky b/c of how easy it is to flood. I start the engine holding the choke (with the warm-up lever if you have one)...

I didn't want to stink-up @Bjur&Sons thread! Let me know when you start liking that stock YouTube music I used on that video @Moserkr 🤣. I loaded an unlisted video (to share with family/friends) of waking up the 'Rude and get them excited for the new season. Impressive smoke cloud (and...

my rig had alot of fatigue damage so I really had no choice. The spray rail patches that required removing/replacing the double-seam rivets was probably overkill. The vertical risers with the wide plates (along with fiberglass-reinforced sidepanel) should provide plenty of support IMO. I...

Thanks! No clear...I doubt that it would adhere. I used the Zephyr polish/sealer on the sides & Sharkhyde on the bottom. I bet a heavy wax could be used as well; I recall @astor using Collinite.

The novice build: 1968 Starcraft SuperSport V-16 "The Boat"

That stinks that you had to drive that far to see a swiss cheese hull. All of the "flex seal" was definitely a red flag. That's a very cool 2015 adhesion study...for the record I treated my corrosion in 2013 🤣 ! I wasn't necessarily using the 860 for adhesion but to clean and passivate the...

I'm sorry the second hull didn't work out. Did you see it in person? Be careful with wire brushes since it's a dissimilar metal; I use a Nyalox orange cupped brush exclusively on aluminum...then a dremel to dig out the deep pits. I like the aluminum etch kit from West Systems b/c it has both...

That's too bad that they couldn't have a good day on the water but I bet it made you appreciate yours even more! The most reliable motor won't cooperate if it's not properly maintained and winterized.

You certainly made short work transforming that into a nice rig! No obvious leaks and the motor jumpin' to life with so little effort...Congrats on an uneventful shakedown / successful splash!!

Welcome to the Starmada! You're off to a great start on the rehab and paying your mob dues! (y) I'm a polishing U alum. I'm glad that I did it and I'm glad that it's done b/c it was no walk in the park. Hopefully your starting aluminum is in better shape than mine (full of corroded...

    1973 ISLANDER REFIT

Cool boat and history! Hopefully you and your helper are still friends by the time you splash 🤣 . Being honest here, that's a really aggressive schedule (4mos) especially on such a large vessel. With it leaking as much as it is, you may more than just a few compromised rivets; these older...

    1972 Starcraft Nova

those braces were added (possibly by a StarCraft service center) to address the outer chine flexing/cracking. The brace widths are probably proportional to the length of the fatigue cracks...and the wider they made them, the more of the double-seam rivets they had to knock out. is the leak...

The novice build: 1968 Starcraft SuperSport V-16 "The Boat"

There are quite a few articles online that can explain it better than I can :) https://www.boatus.com/expert-advice/expert-advice-archive/2012/july/types-of-marine-corrosion It's pretty tough to see the sub-deck carnage unless there are access points. I'd spend some time in the bilge area...

ah if its on Champlain then there's a chance she hasn't seen the Salt. If it's literally on the lake, hopefully it wasn't slipped in a place with shore power. Stray currents make swiss cheese out of aluminum hulls...esp when they're in disrepair.

The novice build: 1968 Starcraft SuperSport V-16 "The Boat"

That 2nd boat is probably cheap for a reason...quite a gamble given the "flex seal" spray bomb repairs. It's a Vt boat and there's a good chance that it has seen saltwater. The corrosion that you've shown doesn't look too bad to me...yet. I would go around and test all of the corrosion pits...

    1972 Starcraft Nova

If you're going the epoxy route, you should incorporate fiberglass cloth to prevent grain checking; checking will crack that candy epoxy coating with ease. If you want to get really nuts, preplan every fastener (before and after the deck goes down) and install epoxy/filler plugs. Otherwise...
