    Fogging oil won't kill engine

Can anyone explain why you should fog the engine for any more than 20 seconds. The engine at idle is sucking air into each cyl at a rate of 5x per second. Any oil that makes it to a compession stroke will be burned out and exhausted. It would almost be more beneficial to fog heavily as it...

    overheat mercruiser

FWIW I drain the block and manifolds and pour AF in each of the hoses up at the thermostat housing until it drains out the removed plugs. Then install the two block plugs and leave the exhaust manifold plugs off. Then fill the block and intake with AF thru the large circulating pump hose...

    overheat mercruiser

You have watched the wrong youtube video. That might work on an outboard but the engine holds at least 2 gallons of AF after the block is drained. No way you can wash out the water with a bucket of AF via the outdrive.

    Winterizing: Fuel in tank options?

I stopped using ethanol gas completely. It destroyed every 2-stroke I owned. Costco gas is pure gas and I havent had to rebuild any carbs for the past 3 years or junk my power tools. The chinese built motors and carbs have parts that get destroyed by ethanol. And whats not built in china...

    Fogging oil won't kill engine

Last season I couldnt kill mine spraying down the primary so I had to shut it down. Had a small amount of smoke on start up this spring. This year, again, engine stumbled but would not stop Until I sprayed into the secondary plate. Then it chugged to a stop.

    5.7 Overheating

Just to add my two cents, but if the temp is registering on the guage, you must have water up at the thermostat To transfer the heat and register it on the gauge. So it overheats at idle which means the water flow is weak. Like others said, change the raw water pump impeller and recheck flow...

Proper way to place engine compartment/bilge fans?

In my Rinker captiva the blower is mounted on the stern with the intake hose hanging into the bilge area, and the fumes vent out the back over the swim deck. The fresh air flows in from the cavities in both sidewalls left and right. There’s No need for a special inlet vent.

Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

You have to think if left to right movement causes noise, then so should up and down If its a drive shaft. The drive shaft is flexing in all 4 directions. You have replaced darn near everything in the upper drive. What else lives there? Or nearby? bad steering linkage, rack, rusted joints...

Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

With it out of the water on muffs you can place your hand on the upper and lower units. If something is banging around in there, it should be pretty evident. The steering is mounted to the transom or structure by the drive. That vibration can travel and resonate.

Alpha one gen II growling noise when turning

With the boat out of the water, engine running, in neutral, can you hear or feel the vibration with someone turning the steering wheel? Ruled out power steering pump and rack I assume?

Are wheel locks the way to go?

Nobody will question someone working around the hitch coupler, even if they are cutting off a lock. They will assume its the owner. But when someone is cutting off a lock around the wheels, it brings attention to them. Its all about speed when stealing something. Just make it as slow for them...

3500# axle cap and water incursion

The rubber plugs seem to be a tight fit, but dont seem to be oil resistant. I did order some 2” bearing buddy generic protectors from ebay. Just for fun, Im going to buy a can of liquid plastic dip and make some covers for an exact fit. Its the same stuff you dip tool handles into and is oil...

3500# axle cap and water incursion

is it possible to keep water out of the axle cavity or is it just going to happen with a boat trailer? I sleeved the inner axle seal area and that seems to be working but my outer ez lube caps seem to let in water. I just checked the rubber plug and it looks like the rubber is degrading either...

    Power/towing question

Did you use ethanol gas and did you stabilize the fuel before the winter? Sounds like a fuel issue.
