    Ideal tongue weight?

Here are a few pics of its new position. the PO had installed the depth gauge below the hull and the bunk was pushing it up. I cut off a small piece so it didnt destroy the device the next time I load it. Previously I was at 5%. I will need to go back to the CAT scale and recheck it.

    Ideal tongue weight?

I moved the boat forward 2” last weekend and that is as far as I could go for that very reason. The transom overhangs the rear most trailer bracket by 4”. Any further and the it would no longer be supported. Thats the best I can without buying a new trailer.

    Painting a boat trailer

You can call someone who does dustless blasting and have the whole trailer stripped down to bare metal. The shoot on some new paint. Buy a case of rustoleum farm and implement paint primer and color top coat.

    New boat owner!

There is a lot to do when launching and retrieving the boat. Dont let anyone rush you or frazzle you. Do all you can to prep before launching to minimize the time at the dock. Until you get comfortable with this boat, I suggest you lift the engine hood before starting up. Once you fire it up...

    Proper Castle Nut Installation

adding washers would work. You can also bend the cotter pin down into the castle nut, which is what I would do. But certainly use the washer so the hub doesnt spin the nut off.

Trailer winch question and tilt question? 1st timer.

The ramp where I boat has a steep incline. If I dont go deep, the bow ends up under the bow stop When I winch it up. If I go shallow, the boat has to be winched from half way on. It aint easy to drag a 3,400 pound boat up on bunks. Ive gotten to the point where I can hook up the winch by...

Trailer winch question and tilt question? 1st timer.

That strap is wrapped the wrong durection as others have said above. But keep in mind that strap even when new is not ironclad. You need to add a safety chain (12mm is what I have) and I also added a ratchet strap to keep the bow from bouncing during transport. And of course the transom...

    Ideal tongue weight?

Update: I was able to get her weighed tonight. The boat/trailer is 4,280# by itself and 4,060# attached to the truck. Tongue weight looks to be 220#. On the reweigh, I lifted the coupler off the ball. I will need to shift the bow stop forward to get closer to 400#. The axles cant be moved...

    Bunks with plastic on top

Two 10’ bunks and two 6’ bunks on a single axle trailer. It might be excessive, LOL. But when you have a pneumatic stapler, it gets fun. And they were about 1/2” apart. when you consider the amount of friction there will be between the boat and bunk, you will wish you hadnt gone cheap on the...

    Bunks with plastic on top

Spend a few bucks and get an electric stapler or air stapler. I used 1500 staples and that would have been tough with a manual staple gun. An air gun can be set so you dont have to hammer them in and break the staples too

    Ideal tongue weight?

And that would mean that Rinker sold this boat on a trailer rated at 3500#. Isnt there some liability by doing that? I know they are defunct, but even back then it would have been an issue.

    Ideal tongue weight?

Checking the math, please correct me. If the CG of the boat is 6’ from the rear, I would be shifting 333# forward of the axle (~2000/6’=333#)(2) and at the same time losing 333# from the rear, net 666# shift in weight forward. Assuming the boat is 4000#. Does that translate to 272# 17’ forward...

    Tire Recommendation

I have been looking at new tires too. I am looking for steel belts. The Carlisle sport trail on my trailer had 4 ply nylon which makes me very uncomfortable. I have been eyeing the Goodyear Endurance tires.

    Ideal tongue weight?

we got rained out this weekend and didnt get to the scales either. In the meantime Im playing with some numbers to see how far to move the boat forward to add 100# to the tongue. Assuming the boat and trailer are 3200#. The ball hitch is 17’ from the axle and the transom is 6’ to the axle...
