Totally baffling !!! Impeller replaced !! And not pumping

Not really, this is the Merc inboard outboard forum. Apparently you are asking about an outboard. Different beast for the most part. No need to apologize, just ask away on your own thread.

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

Never heard it called a power piston. Not that you're wrong, just never heard it called that before. I have and know, relatively front to back, the Edelbrock manual. At least to the extent my old old brain cells do recalls. Good stuff.

Inner transom ring good or bad

If I couldn't find one cheap on ebay I'd sand blast it and paint it up. The transom plate is common and relatively cheap, so I'd weigh the cost versus the labor to clean up the old one.

    Water in cylinders after sitting

Need to find the source before you bend a rod or break a piston.

Totally baffling !!! Impeller replaced !! And not pumping

Just lucky I guess. You will burn up an impeller with the practice. It is almost impossible to meet the requirement to immerse the drive several inches above the pump to get enough water flow to operate safely.

Totally baffling !!! Impeller replaced !! And not pumping

A Mercruiser Alpha drive, either Alpha 1 or Gen II, cannot LIFT any water. Not ever. That impeller is vented to let air out when submerged. If you look at the base there is a slot cut all the way through to allow air to escape which is how the pump primes. No such thing as lift or suction with...

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

No power piston. Just mains and secondary jets and vac powered needles on the main jets.

Shifting Issue alpha 1 Gen 1

With the drive off the boat, turn the brass shoe so it faces directly forward. It should not turn past that when it is turned CW. The prop should be engaged if you turn it Counter Clock Wise. If it does engage properly, stick a bungee on the prop to hold it CCW and reinstall on your boat. Make...

Totally baffling !!! Impeller replaced !! And not pumping

Hook it up to muffs and try it. If you dunk, you gotta get the pump completely submerged.

    Water in cylinders after sitting

Probably has a cracked manifold...should probably remove them and test by filling the water passages with acetone. Cracks will show up.

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

Bogging out in midrange sounds like needles aren't pulling up properly. Check the ability of the vacuum powered plunger to move freely.

5.7 Vortec Runs Great On Land but Bogs Under Load in Water

Sounds to me like more in depth carburetor cleaning needed. Not plugs or ignition. A compression check will tell a lot.

Minimum transom thickness tolerance of alpha mercruiser sterndrive?

The critical factor on thickness is driveshaft length.

    Dean's List gets another motor

Mindblowing. Customer service and support costs much more than the initial savings.

when do you know your flappers need to be replaced

They only close all the way if they get slapped with incoming water.

4.3 Alpha One - Gimball bearing issue

You need an actual Mercruiser Service Manual if you are going to maintain your own boat. It will answer everything, and even stuff you didn't know to ask.

4.3 Alpha One - Gimball bearing issue

Some alignment bars have a bearing driver with them. The quad ring is the 4 inch one that gets glues into the bell housing hole. Grease after. Marine grease, or pretty much any high pressure grease. Not going to be in water, so marine is not necessary.

1978 5.7l pre-alpha with alpha gen 1 drive over heating

Suit yourself, it's your motor and your money. You won't know whether the block has a crack until you reassemble.
