Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

thin coats of resin don't cure very well and there is no advantage over using PB and then clamping the plywood down so the PB will squeeze out on the side. use the squeezed out PB to fillet and blend the valleys. This will give a good transition for the 1708 to adhere to

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

mine looked the same. you need to grind a bit more so the 1708 can wrap around and hold on to something. the "beanut butter" mix will fill the voids and adhere well to it. make sure you do a couple dry fits with the double plywood glued together. then make sure it will be parallel to the outside

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

i put baby powder on before. that seemed to help. someone told me that nylon stockings will help to pull it out. the fine mesh should stick to it and pick it out. never tried it though

pressure treated is not dry most of the time and the chemicals will not allow the resin to bond very well. Any exterior grade ply will work. ACX/ BCX. If you feel wealthy, use marine grade but i would keep that money for beer

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

only 2x 3/4" needed. the hull is 1/4 to 3/8 thick in that area. if you use the 2x 3/4 plywood (2x 23/32")+3/8" = with the hull will get you to approx. 1.8" you add 2-3 layers of 1708 and you are in the range that is needed. 3x 3/4" will be too much

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

if you do not follow the transom spec, nothing will fit. down pipe, bolts, steering arm, drive shaft etc. 90% of the people rebuilding use 2x3/4" plywood. (ACX or BCX is good) with plenty of resin-thickened and 1708 woven to get your thickness. Did you watch any of the rebuild videos or the...

that looks like de-lamination to me. Like others have said, look up other re-builds and also the stickies on top of the forum.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

I don't think you have two. You can just fix the center piece but the decay is also in the stringers. Most notably was the bulkhead between the motor bilge and the tank compartment.

Any Transom experts here. I have a Transom Rebuilding Question.

it looks like somebody else worked on this before. boat is 40 years old and probably had work done before. I assume you are not the first owner. The white outer skin seems to be the original and the dark wood was a patch job. Hard to tell from the front view. You can clearly see the silicone...

very simple. they did make different versions though depending on the year. has an o-ring to seal. Get the right manual and there is even an instruction on how to service the pump itself if needed

that gummed up rocker arm is more likely to bad oil. how does old gas harm a rocker arm that is supposed to be lubricated with engine oil? You do not put old gas into the ground. I do not know where you live but I certainly do not want my well water tainted with fuel.

mix the old gas into your lawnmower at a ratio that you won't notice. If you have other gas operated items, mix it in with that at a 5:1 ratio. old cars that have no catalytic converter etc.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

USCG Type A1 hoses are designed for fuel feed applications where the fuel is constantly in the hose, whereas Type A2 hoses are designed for fuel fill type hoses only. wire were for the fuel sender and ground. one is to ground from fill cap to tank. With the outboard design, to get the transom...

its also sound dampening. if it sinks to the bottom vs floating, the retrieval cost is different. save money on other parts of the project.
