I have a trim pump that, I noticed sprung a leak before we winterized the boat. We are uncovering the boat this weekend. I hope its just a loose fitting. but if its the tank I will have to replace it. What is a good brand and where should I buy it from.
I did a search on google and it looks like they are under $400.

Trim pump for the Mercruiser 3.0 alpha 1 outdrive. How hard is it to replace just the tank if that is what is leaking.

very simple. they did make different versions though depending on the year. has an o-ring to seal. Get the right manual and there is even an instruction on how to service the pump itself if needed

pull pump, remove cap, drain oil. turn upside down, remove single screw. throw away old tank. put o-ring on new tank, tighten screw.

remount pump

fill with oil.

not enough time to drink a beer

The reservoirs tend to crack when the single mounting bolt is too tight. So tighten just enough not to leak.

the plastic reservoir is only intended to last past the warranty period of the pump. they get brittle after 15 years due to heat, ozone, etc. my boat is on its second one since I have owned it.

while you have the pump off, its also a good time to hit the bracket with some cleaner and a rattle can of rustoleum
