    Quicksilver gimbal bearing dot alignment

I don't think it matters. I say think because I don't know for sure. I never paid attention to the dot, I always marked where the grease hole was and lined that up with the grease passage. If I remember right, the carrier on a perma-lube doesn't even have the grease hole drilled. While I...

Probably not. You posted the engine product number, not the serial number. So I can't be sure what transom you have. But from your owners manual ---- Shaft Spline and Bearing Lubrication The primary shaft and bearings must be lubricated each year and whenever the drive unit is removed. This...

Oil pressure sensors can have different locations on different versions of 5.0 engines. Sometimes there are two of them. The correct manual for your engine will show where it is. What’s your serial number? A guess is, lower, aft, port side.

Please help with engine type selection!

Thanks, I haven't been in a car/truck engine since the 70s. Always wondered about the windage tray. Pretty rare for a manufacturer to install a part that's not needed.

Yup, gimbal bearings and u-joints are one of those things where it's best not to grease them if you don't have the right grease.

Please help with engine type selection!

I've always wondered about this. Do truck engines have a windage tray in them? All the Chev V8 boat engine I've torn down have them, but I don't remember seeing them in the few truck engines I've been inside. Not really sure how important a windage tray is.

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

Yes, I was wrong about the fuel getting in the crankcase. It's been along time since I worked on an opti. I was thinking normal 2 stroke. I'm guessing a little fuel enters thru the ports in the cylinder walls. But contaminated fuel is still a problem. The fuel injectors are $300 ea. and the...

Vessel View for 2004 Optimax 115?

Yes that looks like a SmartCraft connector. I'll answer your question with a question. What are you looking for? You mention Vessel View --- that covers a lot of products. You can get Bluetooth to your phone starting at $250 with Vessel View Mobil. I think, but I'm not %100 sure that's all you...

2005 200hp Mercury Optimax Water in Gas

It sure sounds like you still have water in your tank. Fuel comes out of the tank thru a dip tube, that tube ends one to two inches above the bottom of the tank. Gas is lighter than water so you can have many gallons of water left in the bottom of the tank even though you sucked the tank “dry”...

The owners manual is available for free download. The technical manuals are only available to dealers in pdf format because they pay a pretty hefty yearly fee. Consumers can purchase paper copies from the website or order them from dealers.

Vessel View for 2004 Optimax 115?

Not the muffler--well it wouldn't hurt to check it-- The air filter. It's part of the oil tank.

Vessel View for 2004 Optimax 115?

I always urge opti owners to get a copy of the service manual p/n 8M0047659 and read it. You should pay close attention to any warning horns. opti's are pretty touchy. It might be worth the money to find a Merc opti trained tech and have them check fuel and air pressures, they can hook up G3 and...

MERCURY 115 HP 4 STROKE WATER PRESSURE

Water pressure At 650 RPM (idle) 0.7–4.4 psi At 5800 RPM (WOT) 11.6–43.5 psi Do you have the 8M0089111 Pressure Sensor Kit? It was an accessory for your engine. It's located on the top of the engine just aft of the flywheel. You need to remove the...

Vessel View for 2004 Optimax 115?

You have a 2003 engine, so maybe/maybe not. 2003 was right around when SmartCraft started. If you have a SmartCraft connector (it should be on the port side of the engine, down really low, below where the shift cable connects to the shift rail) it should work. But do you really want to? This is...

STOP! You haven't given us your exact engine/drive model. The people giving you advise are well intentioned but could be very wrong. Volvo's can have 2 different flush systems. one of them can only be used with the engine off! You will burn up the impeller in the raw water pump if you run the...

    Carrier/Pinion Bearings Feel Lumpy

Only use grease on the seal surface, use Volvo Penta gear lube on the bearings. I've only over torqued these a few times and that was long ago, but I don't remember them getting loose/tight when I did. They just read high. I've only done this job once without the special tools. The main danger...

    Carrier/Pinion Bearings Feel Lumpy

YOU can reuse the crush sleeve if you want to, heck you can reuse the bolt that holds it together IF you want. It's your drive you can do anything you want, but why? You're risking a multi thousand $ drive to try and save a few bucks? The crush sleeve deforms when you start to crush it. Have you...
