    Slight motor knock

sounds like a miss. could be a lean miss (air/fuel mix needs to set a bit richer). Check compression, and spark. Run with a timing light and test each cylinder (check for miss -- light will go out).

    I want to add a 2nd killswitch to my 1996 Johnson 50

could use a push-button switch, or add the spring-operated red button (overboard kill switch). The push button would close the ground circuit killing the motor. The red button does the same when closed -- held open for running with a plastic clip.

Need some input on 50 HP Johnson problem.

sounds like it's a spark problem at higher rpm, or an overly rich fuel/air mix. Run 50:1 for the oil ratio.

    1991 Evinrude 60hp VRO - Won't Idle

To tighten a zip tie, use a needle nosed pliers and a bladed screwdriver. Pull on the tie with the pliers, while pushing in on the clip with the screwdriver.

    Starting Issue

Use the manual choke, and make sure the plate fully closes.

    Johnson vs merc vs Chrysler?

Have run mostly Johnson/Evinrude, but had good luck with Chrysler (10hp, 55,105) from the '70s. Change out impellers on whatever you choose to buy.

    1992 E10RELENA won't go over 3k

got the right tach, set correctly? A photo sensor tach would measure rotations of just about anything, and could serve as a check or backup. (btw, those plugs look pretty banged up on closeup. Got the right ones? possibly reach is too long.)

82 Evinrude 115hp: How to run on stand?

Your motor should have a solenoid switch under the cover, next to the starter. The positive battery cable connects to one of the large posts. The negative battery cable connects to the engine block for grounding. Post a clear picture of the solenoid and starter for further comments from...

    video of my motor idling

Try it in a plastic trash can, water about half way up the shaft. They sound rough out of the water, but 800rpm might be a little low on muffs. See what it is in the test barrel or on the boat in the lake. Idle might be set a little low.

9.9 Evinrude - Hard Start when warm , but starts fine when cold

Infrared testers are pretty cheap. Get a measurement when warmed up, then when it won't start. 160F is overheating (top of cylinder head).

    1957 Johnson 18 hp. FDE-11

Might check the glass bowl and sintered filter assembly. Make sure the top of the bowl is secured by an undamaged gasket on top. Check for leaks/adjust fit/tighten.

    Gasket Sealant

If you can find a can (can and brush) of OMC/BRP sealant, would be good to have on hand when needed. It seems to last forever.

1972 johnson 25 hp seahorse shift problems

Can help to slightly open number 58 (Crosbyman's diagram) with a bladed screwdriver.

    1957 35hp johnson

Maybe pull both plugs while testing, cranking/pulling over until needle stops, as indicated. (Throttle does not need to be open on a 2-cycle.)

Evinrude 60Hp - wont stay running, help!

Think you may have a fuel problem -- fuel pump or carbs. If holding the key in while cranking, you are running the engine off fuel injected directly via the primer system (i.e., bypassing the carbs and pump.) When that fuel source quits, so does the engine.

    1957 35hp johnson

low to mid 120s psi on a pair of '57s I had three or four years ago. Maybe a new head gasket or a retorque of the current one would help on yours, or just running the motor. If you have the sintered filter in a glass bowl, try it without the filter. For the bowl, a good flexible gasket is...

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

^^R. has it right. I'm looking at '57/'58 issues in another thread -- not your motor!

    '94 Johnson 120 hard miss

I would be inclined to put in fresh Champion plugs, gapped to .030. Believe you would use J4C.
