    How much water?

Buy a 32 gal plastic trash can to use for testing. Run the motor with water about half way up the leg. Check engine temp. at the top of the head with proper 142 degree t.stat installed -- and a fresh impeller. 160F or over is overheating (and too hot to touch). Best to get an infrared...

    What is this hole

"old" doesn't identify the motor. 50:1 is the likely mix (about 2.5 oz outboard oil per gallon of gas.) You might want to remove the lower unit and power wash the inside of the leg. Should not need solvents with normal use, incl off season storage.

    1993 4HP Johnson

another five or six inches of water. The kill switch closes the circuit (grounds out the coils) when the red button is "in". When it's held out by the lanyard clip, the ignition is not shorted out -- motor operates. Don't rev in the barrel, al least for anything but a short burst or two...

    Pontoon vibes in Harris 24'

It sounds like the 3.0 is struggling at the top of its range. Perhaps it is running too rich.

    New prop still ventilating

Does the hull design create turbulence around the motor (possibly a bracket or brace)? The pontoon may need weight distributed toward the stern.

    1993 4HP Johnson

Water level should be 4 to 6 inches, give or take, above the pump (pump is located at the top of the lower unit). Water needs to be well above the mating point on the leg. If the top of the head gets too hot to comfortably touch, the motor is running too hot (upwards of 160F if you have and...

    Water coming out mid section

can't figure out what you are saying. If a fuel leak, check all lines and connectors. Check fuel pump and carb. Don't use it until resolved.

    Water coming out mid section

Why do you assume it's a fuel issue? leaking? Check operating temp at top of head. Over 160F is overheating (will be too hot to touch). Checking with an IR tester, should see something around 140F. Don't run it hard until you troubleshoot the issue.

    1993 4HP Johnson

Well, not exactly. Motors have a throttle control, and many a carb mix adjustment (older ones). You have a throttle stop on the tiller handle, it the stop is working. Start by setting your link and sync according to the manual.

"ran when last used"!! Disassemble and soak the carb in lacquer thinner (or solvent of your choice), then clean all passages with thin wire. Finish by spraying with carb spray. Idle passages under dome on top very important. Test with idle needle set at 1 1/2 turns c.clockwise from lightly...

Armature plate too tight when screws are tightened

Try piece of 2/6 and a rubber mallet on cement floor or steel saw table top (or similar), screw side down. Not too rough with the mallet. Test the aluminum ring for warpage on the flat side, like you would when refinishing head before replacing gasket.

    1970 4hp Johnson low compression

No warpage if mating surface is equally shiny all aroundafter sanding process (above). I use 600 grit (+/-) on a steel table saw top, wet/dry paper used wet to provide smooth finish (and bottom sticks to saw top surface.) Use figure 8 pattern. Torque to specks -- two passes in circular...

Evinrude 15 1992 carburetor cover change

Use a small pick (even a tooth pick) to see if the holes in question are open air holes. It's been too long, and my memory is too short, but are there four or five pegs coming down from the cover (with some broken off)? Probably for placement of the gasket? There are two or three gaskets of...

    Winterize

Want to run the fuel out of the carbs so there is no syrup in the spring. Trick is to get it fogged as the motor shuts down from lack of fuel, but you don't need to be overly obsessive about timing the two actions.

    8hp Evinrude running poorly.

Look for an adjustment needle on or near the top of the powerhead -- would allow you to adjust the mix leaner (clockwise).
