    Ignition wiring question 72 350

I'm pretty stupid when it comes to electrics. If I go by schematic (Clymer). What makes the engine stop when the key is turned off? The key power isn't connected to the power distribution going to the coil. Should I trust Clymer? Mercruiser manual and pre 72 OMC has a wire from the key to...

    Getting rid of hull.

Liberty landfill in Clarklake near Jackson. $5 a foot and you can keep the trailer or pay about 20 more to leave it.

Test stand running 70's 350 water hook up

Didn't get any gauges on it yet. I'd guess it's idling about 7-800 and timing is just on lead edge of plate maybe 20 btdc. The carb was a mess inside! The idle and air passages were plugged. Power pump was stuck. Cleaned it pretty good, but probably needs more. Used an acid cleaner but not a...

Hard to turn crank while rebuilding GM 350

Update, Ran on makeshift test stand. Sounded really good for junk metal. Satisfactory compression. 135 to 145 The real story will be when I get oil pressure gauge to it Thanks for the help and getting me back to bearing basics

    3.0 mercruiser valve adjustment

Just had a similar issue with a SBC 350. Filled the lifters with oil during reassembling per manual and they also acted like solid lifters, only able to get compression with no pre load. Soaked the oil empty assembled lifters in oil overnight and then cycled the plunger while submerged to...

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

Ignored the Merc service manual about filling with oil during reassembling and did as Scott said with soak and plunge. Also cleaned check balls on non oilers. Success! Was able to get proper lash pre load adjustment and compression with oil to all rockers. Thanks for helping me

Test stand running 70's 350 water hook up

success 🤗 front of motor up higher than back, started motor then immediately started full water flow at Y connector. Temp reached about 180. Compression 145 on all but #1 135 (replaced cracked exaust valve on that one ,probably didn't hand lap enough) idle is a little high, from drippy Qaudra...

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

Got it, that's what I needed to know. If I get a new set, can I use old cam?

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

Reading Melling literature they say from retainer to seat is .02 - .06 pre load when lash is correct. Is that what you mean by harder but not solid? Should I be able to depress it further when full of oil?

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

When you cycle the plunger in the oil bath, do they get REALLY hard to depress when the air is gone?

Block sealant...in a raw water system

Did a 120 hp that had smaller crack up high like that, but not through that thick middle part. I also did layers, and yes, paint it to keep rust from creeping under it. When I use that weld product, I never let it set up before applying. The runnier the better. Pull the runs up with a wet...

Test stand running 70's 350 water hook up

The 2 hoses are the small ones that go from the top of the intermediate housing to the side of the elbows. The first picture shows them. The big water/exaust hoses are attached to the flywheel cover, thought it would quieter with those installed.

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

Thanks for all the great info. The pump prime sounds like a good explanation. It sounds like getting all the air out is a good thing so bubbles don't stay trapped in there. Thanks for confirmation of my obsession for keeping things in order of how they came out. The first attempt to run...

Test stand running 70's 350 water hook up

Oops! Flooded the cylinders with water 😣 The motor was not leveled, front was lower. Everything was fine at first with hose barely turned on but after getting bugs out of carb and thinking she was really going to start I turned the pressure higher. There's a little hole in each elbow I guess...

    Valve lifter reassembly SBC

My mercruiser manual says to fill the lifter body with oil during reassembling. What's the porpose of this ? Also when installing back in block is oil okay for the outside or should I use engine moly?

    85' 150hp driveshaft question

I saw that price as NLA. Ouch Here in lower Michigan we're big on I/O's for that HP if it's that old. Lots of big newer 4 strokes on bass boats tho. I personally don't like smokers either, but the low maintenance is a good trade off plus I can run it right up to lake freeze and drain it right...

    85' 150hp driveshaft question

It's a 85 J150TX The last time I had the lower end off, I noticed the splines on the driveshaft going into the powerhead are getting worn. Am I going to have to replace the crankshaft also, is it a harder metal that fails after the shaft?

Compression test results 4.3L V6 2005 what do You think?

About the snake oil, I won't say do or don't. My own experience with an inline 4, it was impossible to get it all out the next day. The vapor lock when I started it broke the long insulators of all 4 new plugs ! Was lucky to not blow the head gasket or bend a rod.
