Most common problems with 4 cyl / 3cyl chrysler outboards

Your part: regular maint. Check/ change gear oil, yearly water pump impeller change, new plugs, keep the fuel tank as full as possible(keeps condensation low, use fuel stabilizer and run the motor out of fuel or drain the carbs over winter, grease the motor on a regular basis. The others might...

1998 Force 90 ELPT by Mercury Marine

It sounds like the first 2 shops were afraid of the Force??? Zero vacuum on the pump: B*&^#$%T if you had compression you had to have vacuum to operate the pump. The compression was probably done wrong or used a Harbor Freight compression tool. They just didn't want to mess with it. They should...

    Troubleshooting 91 Force 90HP Tilt/Trim System

The pic you posted shows a new or fairly new pump?? If it 's new it might be the dreaded CHINEESE JUNK?? Lots of them come defective right out of the box.

    Lower Unit Bearing Carrier Leaking

If you can't find the right tool?? Then the part is still available. You might cut it out(very carefully) then the carrier can be resealed. Never heard of the case being "out of round" so I wouldn't worry about that. Dis-assemble before you buy parts, Replace ALL the seals since it's apart...

1994 Sea Rayder 90 HP sport jet manual and serial number location

Now that you have 5 posts. you should be able to add pics. If the magnets aren't loose, then you probably don't need a flywheel.

85 force lower unit drain plug

The allen headd set screw is a fine thread machine screw. Easy out is a way to go. You drill the set screw then use the appropriate easy out and heat it with a propane torch. Once you drill it the oil will drain out so be careful when you use the propane torch. Use the torch before you drill is...

1994 Sea Rayder 90 HP sport jet manual and serial number location

The Boat/ jet ski should have a year embossed someplace, usually on the rear. That helps ID the motor. Figure out the year and then you can get a service manual. You can add pictures using a photo sharing site, then after 5 posts you can post them using the Attach file button. The 6 magnets...

    CD boxes and coils

Nordin has it backwards, the black is the newer blue is the older. The difference is the black is the "Improved" model. Your not supposed to mix the colors but they seem to work if you do. The only difference I saw is the connectors are different.

50 hp force questions after recent test run

The foam probably won't get past the reeds. It would just lump up and cause poor running.

    Waterpump repair help

Always helps to take pics as you work. That o-ring might not be needed??? In the parts diagram for the 120 it doesn't show it's there. Mercury style pumps need it, Force doesn't. Was it there before? Post a pic of the top of the pump. Won't hurt anything if it's there.

    85 hp compression

Setting for some time shouldn't really affect the comp readings. Get a Snap On or Mac tool comp tester and try again.

1990 Trophy twin Force 120s prop question

Sneezing at startup?? That could be the motor is sucking air and needs repaired. Do the Starting Fluid Test: start the motor, spray SF around the intake side of the motor and see if the spray makes it run different. Spray under the coils, packs and below the carbs. The port covers have a slim...

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Just modify the setup you have? Include a car/ motorcycle horn in the system. Once the temp gets hot the horn sounds off instead of the tiny buzzer already in the system.

    85 hp compression

Does it start? My twin 1988/85's had 145# when new. When I sold them almost 30 years later they still had 145# IF??? it's running?? run it. You can try adding a bit of oil in the cyl. and if that raises the # then the rings might need replaced???

Milky fuel in carb intake force 85hp

The air screw is for the air fuel mix at idle or close to idle. Past 2000 the main jet takes over. Try cleaning the carb and make sure all passages are open. While the carbs are off: look in at the reeds and make sure they are closed or close to being closed. A small gap is acceptable.

Where is the front line on trim tilt hydraulic pump

Your system is TILT only. No trim or the front hyd. line to loosen.

    85 hp compression

120 is acceptable as long as it's on all 3. What kind of tester? How many revs to take the reading? As many as 10 for the right results. Harbor Freight gauges give bad results.
