    Boat buckle tie down location

I don't think the Boat Buckles will work for you, then. When I installed mine, I thought the instructions said something about installing with 30 degrees of vertical. My BBs have worked great - I've probably used them for at least 5-6 years, but I don't think they'll work in your situation. If...

    Hybrid Vehicles

I'd really be interested in seeing a cost of ownership analysis for similar vehicles that are ICE-only vs. hybrid. I don't think I've ever seen anything other than a bunch of anecdotal claims. Every time I fill up my F150 I find myself thinking how a hybrid, with it's better mileage, sure would...

    Boat buckle tie down location

I thought transom tie-downs were designed to keep the boat from bouncing up and down on the trailer (i.e., to make the trailer and boat move as one object). The placement in the picture would not accomplish that as the boat could easily bounce around when hitting a bump. I'd want my transom...

    454 in a 21' bowrider

What's the weight difference... about 200 pounds... Equivalent to one large, full grown adult male? My 19' bowrider has a 350 Mag and can pop a skier up out of the water like nobody's business. I can't imagine what a 454 in 21' boat could do.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Whatever you do with the gas, please dispose of it responsibly and don’t just dump it on the ground. Nobody needs 10-15 gallons of gasoline in local waterways or groundwater.

Making a pressure tester for Mercruiser outdrive

I think 15 psi is max... in actuality, 11-15 psi is sufficient. Seals can definitely be popped if you over-pressurize. I follow the procedure in post #21 on this thread: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/drive-pressure-vacuum-check.230980/page-2

    Restoring 1988 19’ bayliner capri

I used the claw side of a framing hammer to chunk out the foam.

    Tires…

I'd probably pair them on axles, too. I'd be worried about getting weird tracking problems if you put both of the same type of tires on one side.

    Cleaning stained gelcoat

Toilet bowl cleaner works great, but you need to think about what it will come in contact with when you rinse it off the surface. Even diluted, that stuff can act on all different types of materials from plastics to metals, so just consider where it will be going as you rinse it off, and make...

    Boat Trailer Bunk Carpet

I left a gap when I did mine, partly to aid in drying and partly because it make the process much easier than trying to align the edges of the carpet. I agree that monel staples are the way to go. Glue if overkill and will just make it more difficult to replace the carpet if you need to.

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Personally, I wouldn't consider rebuilding a boat and not replacing foam. That stuff could literally save your life (and the lives of any guests) should things go south. I never understand when people question the need for flotation foam when rebuilding.

    Sanger v210 Keel Hull damage

Hard to tell from your pictures how long and how deep the scars are. In any case, it is repairable by anyone who is reasonably handy. I'm not sure if new fiberglass cloth is needed, but at a minimum, some thickened resin to fill the voids, followed with a coat or two of gelcoat on top. After...

Adding Distilled water to battery. what qualifies as distilled?

This is the question. Distilled water at our local Walmart is $1.34USD per gallon. Unless you're really in a pinch, why introduce any unnecessary contaminants into an expensive battery?

What does this marking mean on this new to me outdrive?

Anti-clockwise would be pretty uncommon terminology in North America... most here use 'counter-clockwise.'

Bought my first boat to cut, gut and rebuild from bow to stern, including engine. Killed my back and suffered the wrath of the fiberglass demons

Demolition and grinding are really tiring. Once you get all the garbage cleaned out and all the bad stuff ground away, it starts to get a lot more fun.

    2024 Super Bowl !!

I agree. It makes me very uncomfortable to see so much sports gambling. There have been problems in the past with influencing the outcome of sporting events and and I can't believe the prominence of gambling these days won't eventually cause that to happen again.

    Marine epoxy/fiberglass in toilet tank?

Thanks, guys. My sister's out in Alexandria, VA, so I'm not sure what the local water (and scale build-up) is like. I'll pass along these ideas. Thanks again! Jim

    Marine epoxy/fiberglass in toilet tank?

Hi all, my sister has an older home that has a very cool art deco bathroom that has some unique fixtures that seem to no longer be available. (She's even checked restoration suppliers.) The toilet tank has a crack that runs about 8-12" and it sounds like some solution that seals the crack and...

    To tip a housecleaning service?

I would, especially if you want that level of service to continue. Finding someone who attends to that level of detail is uncommon.
