    F-150 Transmission Issues (I think? . . . No, I thought )

FYI the 3.5 eco boost uses variable cam timing. Cam phasers use engine oil pressure to operate properly. Would think an engine fault could be present in this situation, however. Misfire, timing, oil pressure, etc..... Quick check would be an engine oil/filter change, use a higher viscosity oil...

Mercuiser 357 mag low compression on #6 (120 psi)

FWIW my compression tester guage reads 35ish psi static (0 psi). I routinely test many sbc v8's that read 180-190 psi on engines that are sound, no miss/dead cylinder exhaust sound, wot 4500ish rpm/spec If I do the math: 180 - 35 = 145 I've dropped, bumped and used my guage on a weekly basis...

    1998 F150 Clutch question

I would inspect the master cylinder. Hopefully ford understands the need for decent access to both master and slave cylinders Are either cylinders removable?

    No start question

Dwell is the amount of time measured in degrees of rotation of the distributor shaft the points are open Need to set dwell first, roughly 28-30 degrees for a sbc. Then set timing, ought to be 8 degrees btdc for your engine Yes, dwell/timing is important for proper starting and runnability for...

New 5.7 runs and shuts off

Normally on the rain hat/flame arrestor cover along with engine serial number and other spec info Guessing with the replacement long block there's little chance the serial number tag on the block is present

New 5.7 runs and shuts off

You need the mercruiser model number not the (guessing) casting numbers on the block

    Fire extinguisher system

Looks like a check engine light Is the engine an ec (catalyst) model? CEL light on would indicate a fault

New 5.7 runs and shuts off

Wouldn't be good enough for my taste, fair witness and all...... What is the engine model? Some efi/mpi models don't require setting the timing, others require the ecm to be set in service mode for proper idle timing adjustment

water in engine, is it salvageable?

Welcome to boating You can do whatever you want with your engine but only repairing half of what is at least visibly wrong, crossing your fingers to use the boat this summer, then later doing the job proper will only cost you more money and time Find a reputable machine shop locally, bring...

Unless you know pretty much everything about OMC cobra sterndrives it's a money (and time) dump If you knew enough about OMC you wouldn't be asking

water in engine, is it salvageable?

I thought this was a restoration? You can't restore by putting band aids on problems. The rust on the piston tops/cylinder walls needs to be addressed. A proper machine shop will be able to set things right if the block is sound

water in engine, is it salvageable?

Salvageable? Yes, maybe but not in its current condition Engine needs to either be sent to a machine shop for proper inspection/repair (if possible) or a complete long block assy You will need a new/sound intake/exhaust manifold (obvious crack) and possibly riser/elbow. Water has been in the...

New 5.7 runs and shuts off

Fuel regulator vacuum line should tie in with the intake manifold/throttle body. The line not being connected shouldn't affect performance unless there is fuel present in the line(s) What is the fuel pressure? Is the idle timing correct and is the timing advancing properly? You're on the right...

Alpha One Gen 1 - Can't get 6" on shift cable adjustment

Yep, straight fore/aft for forward The drive should be locked in full forward gear if everything is aligned correctly with the foot oriented as pictured If you can't get the 6" adjustment I'd guess either the shift arm roller isn't aligned with the cable end slide, the cable itself is...

    Trim sender/limit wiring HELP

Limit wires (male bulleted ends) connect to the purple and blue wires pictured The guage sender wires (male/female ends) attach to a brown/wht and black wire in the engine harness. Usually located at the aft portion of the intake. Near the distributor on a sbc

Alpha One Gen 1 - Can't get 6" on shift cable adjustment

Is the foot that sits atop the splined shift shaft oriented correctly with proper engagement of the shift fork on the bellhousing?

    Shift cable question

Guessing mercruiser? If so the cable is anchored to the bell housing on both alpha and bravo styles The cable needs to move at the transom assembly and the bellows needs to stretch and move due to steering and trim/tilt
