Lift 1970's 150 Mercury with no power!?

Once the release valve is loosened, the motor will be able to be tilted up and down. If the motor is tilted up under power, the release valve will not let it down. However, you can always loosen one of the down hydraulic hoses and the oil will spray out as the motor tilts down under it's weight.

Just aquired a boat from a family member and the motor wont tilt manually either

Your motor looks to have about 1/3 of the parts you need for power trim. You are missing the pump/reservoir that mounts in the boat and the 4 hydraulic hoses that power the trim cylinders, and of course, the bolts. The manual trim version of that motor needed to be in forward as Racer stated...

    Mercruiser 4.3 Prop Question

I think the 50MPH claim is marketing. My 18 foot SeaRay with a 4 bbl 4.3LX would get 42MPH, with a 21P prop. You will need to trim is to max, to achieve max speed.

    mercury blackmax 150 power/wot problems

Idle speed is controlled by the carb opening. The throttle cable controls that. So set it to push the cab closed and add a bit of preload.

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

Lou, you can buy the Wallyworld "Marine Boat trailer and equipment grease". It has a cool blue color.....It works pretty good as well.

Mercury 115 inline 6 bearing carrier seal issue

Did you look on the crowleymarine web site? They should list the part number of the seals, and whether they are the same.

    mercury blackmax 150 power/wot problems

Seloc often makes large errors in their service info. Idle pickup timing should be 0-9*ATDC and max spark advance s/b 21*BTDC. Hopefully the timing procedure is correct.

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

Gee, I have had my garboard plug freeze in the fitting in saltwater. I needed a pipe wrench and hammer to get it out. There was not a lot of the plug left after that. I use some antiseize or grease on it now.

    Mercruiser 5.0 Thunderbolt 5 ignition

OK, rev it up to 2999 RPMs in neutral and see what happens. Just sarcasm. Don't rev an engine past 1500RPM in neutral. It is bad policy.

    Is my trailer too short?

It would be best if you could move the winch stand forward, so the stern of the boat is even with the end of the trailer. If not, cut off the protruding bunks and watch the end of the trailer for any bending.

Bone headed move - put the plug in with 3M 4200

Gee, take out the three screws holding the garboard drain to the hull. Buy a new garboard drain fitting and use the 4200 to glue it to the hull.

    Mercruiser 5.0 Thunderbolt 5 ignition

Gee, revving past 3K RPM in neutral is real bad for the engine. Do that a few times and the engine will likely blow, eliminating your question, at least for a while. Has the engine/prop combo ever gotten above 4K in gear at WOT? Where I would expect that motor/boat to get a few more RPM...

Sadly a lot of motors will suddenly be for sale.

Gee, are you talking about motors flooded by the recent hurricane?

Lift 1970's 150 Mercury with no power!?

After you turn the knurled knob as recommended, expect the motor to still require some effort to tilt. Bend your knees and use both hands to make it happen.

Most any brand of outboard tachometer will work. Faria and Teleflex are two of the most popular.

Can skeg damage cause vibration/noise on plane?

Is the Prop is made of stainless or aluminum? If aluminum the propshaft is very likely fine. Perhaps the universal joints are going bad? If the prop is stainless steel, at that low speed, it would be unlikely the propshaft was bent, however it is possible. Visual inspection when you pull...

Leak when outdrive is up Merc 3.0 Alpha 1

Gee, check your driveshaft bellows. When was the last time it was changed? Also, why are you tilting the motor up, when the boat is in the water? Usually, the outdrives are underwater tilted or not, giving no advantage to tilting them, but tilting them is real hard on the bellows.

    Eska 5hp choke knob

Gee, the last Eska I had was the middle 70's. It was a 5 HP single cylinder. Other than being a 2 cycle engine, it was very much like a lawnmower. So clean the points and sand/file them square, and test for spark. If no spark and the coil looks OK, replace the condenser. Not sure where to...

    Eska 5hp choke knob

Maybe it unscrews? The choke knob has a lock washer between the plastic knob and the brass shaft.
