    Back up motor?

The OP indicated that he had a weedless lower unit, not a weedless prop.

    Back up motor?

There's an idiot on every waterway, and they deserve whatever happens to them. The bad part of the video, though, is that he put the poor dog in harm's way.

    Back up motor?

    What is your main motor?

    Transon saver/non power trim

Hummmmm. The stress while driving pushes the transom back and forth. Worst possible scenario. In the water the stress is forward only, as it should be. If anyone ever saw a bouncing motor fall off the back with transom attached, they would never go without a saver...

    GPS / speed app

I have an Android speed app on my phone that I downloaded just to check the speedometer on my car. Both boats have Vesselview so no need for anything else. My old classic Lyman has nothing, but I couldn't care less how fast she goes.

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Well, everybody has an opinion, but based on the pictures it looks like it is in very poor condition. It surely has been sitting out in the elements a very long time.

    Back up motor?

I said that the weedless lower would have less thrust, but I don't think the loss will be as much as using a 4 HP. If you have a long shaft transom, I think a 6 short would not be the way to go either.

    Back up motor?

The weedless is intended for just that, and it works very well in that regard. But, as far as pushing the boat at speed, it will not equal a 4 hp non-weedless. If your tansom is 15", the long shaft 6 HP will also not provide a full 6 HP power.

    Back up motor?

    A 3.5 HP Mercury 4-stroke will push my 15' Boston Whaler (1700 # as loaded) at 6.5 MPH. A 5.0 HP Mercury 4-stroke will push my 19' SeaRay (3600 #) at 6.0 mph.

Got a new toy to test out eventually...

People today only care about speed. Economy, performance, pffft. (What is performance anyway? - different meanings to different people) The second truth is that many boats are fitted with bigger motors than they should have (speed, remember). As such, bow rise is often a problem. Too heavy...

    Would you?

For your conditions, I think that you should absolutely file a tutorial. I guess if it were me I would do it differently: - Back up until the back bumper is above water. - Disconnect the winch. - Tie fore and aft lines to the dock. - Then back up and let he float off.

    Would you?

I don't get the "frozen bunk" problem. But then again, I keep my boats inside all the time. So, the bunks dry out in between launches. Like any mechanical thing, rollers must be serviced periodically - from lubricating the shafts and replacing the rubber when it gets old. Not disconnecting...

    Just curious

My gripes are toward idiots who park in the boat + Trailer spaces so they can fly their kite and don't have to walk too far. Also, idiots throwing balls to their dogs at the end on the ramp, and kids swimming between ramps. Fortunately, the local police patrol frequently and give out many...

    Would you?

60,years of boating, with nothing but roller trailers. No internet back then. Stop at the ramp with a sixpack and observe. But the best edumacataion was the library. They had trailer boater books that gave good directions. Step 1 - disconnect light cable. Step 2 - disconnect transom tie...

    Would you?

Might work for awhile. If the drawbar is on 100%, then OK. If you take it off in Winter, it likely will rust and need fitting every year.

    1959 Evinrude Lark Kill Switch

Yeah you better be careful. The water cops are out there trying to make money off of you. Just like traffic stops looking for seat belt violations.

    1959 Evinrude Lark Kill Switch

I didn't say it couldn't be done, I said I was NOT going to put one on a 70 year old classic boat.

    1959 Evinrude Lark Kill Switch

My classic Lyman has a pressure fuel tank (no fuel pump) and a manual start (recoil - no battery). The only possible way to shut it off is to retard the throttle or pull the fuel line. NOBODY is going to tell me I need a lanyard.
