Retractable Transom Tie Down Strap size

IMHO, the capacity would be OK. The problem I see is the retractable part. That would never be on MY boat (not again, that is). Especially not if in salt water. Removing the strap and throwing it in the trunk ain't so hard.

    Transducer on aluminum v-hull

Drill 2 holes thru the transom in spots needed to mount the ducer in the right place. Inside the hull mount a wood block (or aluminum if you prefer) and thru-bolt it. Seal the inside and out with 5200. The tinny in my signature has had that setup in place for 30 years and I never saw it leak...

    paint colors

Seeing old rusty junk come alive like a rising Phoenix is a satisfying feeling. The problem is too many toys and not enough time. Fortunately, I have 2 old classic boats that provide a platform to run engines. That way, they can all be rotated. In the interim, after using up all the old...

    2022 gatortrax nightmare

Looks just like the work boats I see all the time. Did you look at hulls in their showroom before ordering it?

Just bought and new to boating..dont know what i have here..cant find the specs or anything like it on the net...please help

If you google the name on the boat, "Pro Deep-V 17" comes up as a Tracker. The hull certainly looks like a Starcraft, but the letters on the boat are aftermarket, and not made by Starcraft. A Pro Deep-V 17 is a center console. The OP's boat is a runabout. Looks like somewhere along the line...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Awesome list. I bookmarked it for, future reference since I'm a restor kinda guy. I scanned it for a minute. Didn't see it quick since I don't need it. Good infp for the OP.

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

This thread piqued my interest. The Grew ain't it. I looked up Grew and their logos don't even come close to the OP's. The fish logo is the answer. Find that manufacturer's company logo and you'll find the answer.

    New motor!

Wholly crap. My spell checker missed that. Even with my old 2-stroke oil burners running at 16:1 I never got that low. Thanks for the correction.

    New motor!

If you forget you are the kickee, not the kicker.

    New motor!

Nice catch. We are in fresh water. Keeps the boats and equipment in nice condition, but our catches don't compare. Our required speeds are slower than the Mercruiser can handle. That's why the 9.9 'Rude came in handy. Even a 10 year old can join the fraternity....

    New motor!

The motor will push the boat at about 6.5 mph. When we go fishing we run at about 1/4 throttle to make the lure attract fish. 1.9 mph is the ideal fishing speed, not what the motor is capable of.

    New motor!

Been boating since the 1950's. AFAIK, the terms are pretty universal. A "Kicker" is a gasoline powered small motor mounted on the transom next to the main. Some people use them for trolling, with a secondary purpose as an emergency backup. Regardless of one's purpose, it's on the boat and...

    New motor!

Isn't that the actual definition of a kicker? If you have it mounted on your transom alongside your main, then it's a "kicker". If it's not mounted, then it's a spare. I had that exact same motor as my kicker on a 16' deep V fiberglass runabout. Mine was s short shaft, though. It was mounted...

Hiawatha is going to be an issue. Not one of the more popular collectible brands. I did the following '56 7.5 by matching the inner cowl to a very close Rustoleum. Or, have a local auto paint shop color match it. The inside of the cowl should not have been faded too bad.

    Spring is around the corner

My checklists are completed in the Fall, a week after she goes on the hard. Right now, I can't see across the street, much less around the corner...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Gran Turismo Omologato Interesting enough, it was designed, engineered and promoted by the Pontiac Motor Division Bigwig, John DeLorean. Funny thing, though, when he started his own company his cars would only go 88 mph.

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Aw, now you made me envious. Back in the 1960's I had 2 desires, a GTO and a rear steer Lyman. Never was able to get the Goat, but 30 years later I found the Lyman. Being very impatient and having a heated workshop, it only took me a year for the restoration...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

It's a limited production boat, that's why nobody could ID it. The fish logo is a giveaway, though. You should do extensive R&D on Fiberglassics.com and when you find it, you'll know. Now, if it was from a regional builder, then you're probably out of luck. We can steer you, but nobody is...

Bought a Used Boat, but what is it?

Don't be mad at us. All we wanted to do was let you know what you are getting into and trying to save you a lot of heartache. Like you, I am a home crapsman as well, and love to restore old things. After working on rusty cars, rotten wooden boats and beyond useful life fiberglass boats, I'll...
