something new coming in electric OB

At least in Europe a lot of countries have gone from steam to electric in the fifties of the last century with overhead power lines and spring loaded contacts. The diesel electric trains were developed so they could use both systems and whenever they had to go onto tracks that had no electric...

something new coming in electric OB

The Lyman hydrofoils will come on plane completely out of the water on their skis, being about 10 times as energy efficient as the more tradional boats that most of us own. That is probably the first place where the electric outboard will be a reasonable alternative

something new coming in electric OB

For every boat like yours there are probably fifty that are on small lakes where the owners will go on a 10 or 12 mile cruise in the afternoon going maybe 10 mph. That is where you will see the move from gas to electric start happening

something new coming in electric OB

Electric cars had a range of maybe 20 miles just a few decades ago. Now they easily go 300 miles without a recharge and I for one will not be amazed at all if that becomes 1000 miles + within the next 10 years while the only thing holding it back being big business trying to stop that innovation...

    What boat to choose

I run a rig in the pacific out of Costa Rica and we go 25 to 30 km off shore. I use a 28 foot Mako with twin 200 horse yammies. It makes for safety, because you are all alone out there and safety and speed are important.

Would it not have to be much lower on an engine that does not have a thermostat to regulate the water flow?

    Electric connections for a 2024 9.9 Suzuki

So I bought a nice Suzuki 9.9BTXW5 with side mound remote control for trolling for salmon and I am about to install it. The electronics from the side mount do get me quite mixed up. There is the connection that goes straight from the side mount to the engine, that I presume holds the start/stop...

Sorry I can't get the attachment to stick, but you are right. I accidentally looked at a 1962 version.

Before writing that, I double checked because I also doubted it. The thermostat sits on top of the cylinder head.

    1958 seahorse 10 running hot

I'm thinking that nothing was very wrong when you decided to service the water pump. So problems appearing after this service probably have to do with possible mistakes. I would not be amazed at all if it is just a matter of the key not installed on the driveshaft when setting the impeller in...

Seeking Advice: Real-Time Bathymetry Solutions for a 25-Foot Boat

I did something a bit comparable on Lake Ontario. With the help of a Lowrance depth map,and a Furuno 588 with an airmar 262 transducer. I pointed a camera at both the screens and taped the film. The end result was a narrow line with very precise depth reading and irregularities. I pinpointed the...

    Penn or Cannon?

Thank you Dingbat for that info. My preference goes toward the Penn Fathom masters and what made me favor those is the circuit board. This is probably because I am a tinkerer. I managed to find the problem on one of the circuit boards and managed to fix it. Needless to say, I felt good about...

Steering cable wont bend enough to come out of outboard

It sounds to me that it is time for a new steering cable that has a more flexible setup. You might want to think about a hydraulic one instead of a wire cable. It is amazing how you can stuff those in impossible angles and they still work great

    Penn or Cannon?

I have been servicing and fixing my downriggers over the past few days and at this point I have 6 good working ones. 2 Cannon mag15s and 4 Penn 825s. I rebuilt all the motors and everything works fine. I would like your ideas and preferences between Cannon and Penn and why you have...

    Fuel line upgrade

It depends on how cold it gets in winter where you live. The cold will make the line brittle and the squeeze ball hard and useless, causing you to get stuck on the lake. I find that the grey lines get leaky at the connections and the cheap black ones do the same. This is one article where you...
