    4.3 liter 1989 Cobra problem

I finally had a chance to go fishing in my restored Islander with the 4.3 liter rebuilt engine. Everything went great but in the middle of the day, after I started the engine, it would stall upon shifting forward. When I would push the accelerator forward fast, there would not be a problem and I...

    Penn downrigger power supply cables

You are right and I took your advice. I went with a garmin reactor 40 with GHC 50. It cost me an arm and a leg, but I am told that burial shrouds do not have pockets.

Kicker remote control steering and speed.

When trolling for salmon I often need to make very small adjustments to speed and direction because of side wind and under water currents. I bought a Powrtran tailfin wireless setup to control steering, but decided to another way because it only controls direction. Next I bought the panther...

    Penn downrigger power supply cables

Thank you, I am quite aware of that, but I have looked all over the place to find them and they are almost impossible to find. This is sort of a last resort thing. Besides, I am looking for information, not for bids and offers.

    Penn downrigger power supply cables

Currently I hooked up cannon cables and they work fine, but in this case I would like to go original all the way, partly because it looks neater and partly because I fish solo 99% of the time and being able to raise and lower the riggers from the the dashboard makes it a bit easier.

    Penn downrigger power supply cables

I am restoring my Starcraft Islander and I am almost done. I also want to install the Penn Electric downriggers that were on there originally. I have 4 good working 800s. What I need are two sets of power cables. 2 from rigger to boat and the 2 female ones that go to the power source. If you...

4.3l mercruiser no start when hot

What about the fuel pump? You stated that you only run it on the muffs at low rpm so you might not have noticed, but possibly the pump is bad and does not get enough fuel in the carburetor.

4.3l mercruiser no start when hot

It sounds to me that the fuel level in the carburetor is being drawn down by the engine running and when you try to start there is no fuel available. What happens if you try to push to full gas a couple of times before trying to start? And what happens if you allow the engine, when hot, to run...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

There is one thing that may help you. If you know whether your axle set is for instance 3500 pounds, your guess becomes a lot more educated

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

If you pull the bearing just clean it off a bit and you will see some numbers on the side. Those numbers will tell you what size the bearing is.

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

I moved the rear roller set six inches forward. It was actually very easy to do with a few jack stands and two jacks. Shorelander has all these predrilled holes. I could do this with the boat on the trailer by jacking it up at the transom just enough to make the roller frame move forward with...

    Decifering faded VIN numbers.

It did not work very well

    Decifering faded VIN numbers.

You may have a faded VIN # on your trailer which makes it impossible to read and makes it hard to register the trailer. I just read this about the trick of putting some charcoal powder on your finger and lightly wiping it over the vin sticker. Because the VIn sticker is typed on the foil or...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I always use a wide canvas strap with a winch tightener, wrap it around the circumference and lubricate the new tires. then I winch the tire down and thereby force the bottom of the tire outward to the point that it pushes onto the sides of the rim which is lubricated as well.. Only then do I...

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

The weather is not really on my side so I have not been out to work on the trailer, but when I looked at the trailer roller setup I realized that the seesaw setup of the trailer on the rear end is a set of four with the center where the seesaw center connects to the trailer is very close to the...

Restoring a trailer vs replacing a trailer

I did put on a a longer tongue bar on a shoreland'r Trailer just last week and mentioned this on another thread. Dingbat answered the thread and said that a 2 foot longer tongue bar increases deviation by up to 25%. that may cause the tail to wag the dog. Not being an engineer I do not...

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

I will go to a weight station and weigh the car + trailer and then the car with the trailer attached but not on the scale and last, the car only. That should give me the basic information that I need. I did move the axle about 3 inches farther backward. Maybe that will make the difference. I'll...

    Moving roller position on a 1989 Shoreland'r

I have restored a 1989 22 foot 4.3 liter Starcraft Islander sitting on a 1989 single axle Shoreland'r trailer and added 2 batteries (40 pounds each) and a Suzuki extra longshaft (125pounds) to the transom area. In order to realign the weight distribution I pull the boat farther forward on the...
