Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

Actually, that is not a joke at all. The problem for all the outboard manufacturers was that once a customer bought an outboard he usually was set for life. Specially when the outboard was used only during a few months in summer. High quality, mass production and light use caused the market...

Old motors DEMAND to be retired when they are 65 years old..

I have three 1957 35horse Seahorses and the engine blocks are the sturdiest ever. I run them for fun and they are in tiptop shape. Of course if you use them in salt water and do not clean them up. it becomes a different story.

Mercruiser 4.3 Engine - empty carb bowl

The smart thing is removing the carburetor and do a complete rebuild or have it done. There should be places in the Netherlands where people do this. If you do anything less than the whole job,it will come back and bite you in the $$s. Also make sure to find out where the fuel smell comes from...

going to buy a used mercruiser

Go with a musical tuner or a magnifying glass over the block to hear or see any cracks in the block. There can be good compression in spite of a crack in the block. I found that out the hard way. Make sure that your lower unit is an Alpha 1 so things fit not just size wise but also gear wise...

    Tohatsu. question

Presuming that you have the engine running while flushing, it is a problem. When you flush it on the muffs you should make sure that there is enough water pressure on the muffs to make the water get into the pump housing so the pump can push the water up. When you flush with a barrel ,the water...

I like that word play, sarcastic and amused at the same time. Keep it coming! But seriously, if you get a short block that took a dunking in all that nasty stuff and you clean it up and remove all moving parts and replace all of that with new materials, would it really matter that the skeleton...

2006 Monterey Boat with a 4.3L Mercruiser TKS Engine S/N 0w354897 Mysterious Loss of Power

I like the clogged fuel tank vent. A friend of mine had a similar problem on his Penn Yan. It turned that in his efforts to make the boat nice and shiny , he actually clogged the air vents on his tank with wax. It made it hard to fuel up, because the air had nowhere to go and as in this case the...

I have used several long blocks from Michigan motorz and in retrospect, there are a few important things to consider. No matter what rebuilder you choose. For instance. Is the rebuilt oversized? What is the actual compression in this block and how does it compare to standard. I had a mercruiser...

the computation method is best to use. You multiply your boat length by the transom width. Then you take that number, which is known as the “factor,” and match it to a horsepower capacity according to the Code of Federal Regulations Table 183.53 — Outboard Boat Horsepower Capacity, shown...
