Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

Pretty much on the money for my experience with it. The weight of it is pretty incredibly light for the power. Even the lower end is much slimmer than similar power motors I've owned. I think... well actually I know that mercury was aiming these motors to be good go fast motors for light boats...

Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

Don't exactly know the factory hp rating on it. I pulled it out of a farm field with no data plate on it. Not a good sign I know, but it was completely mush aside from the fiberglass and the guy said he had it for 20 years or so. I belive it had an old merc 650 on it originally tho. I'd figure...

Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

As far as over power goes, I'd say she's quite the opposite. Just enough power. I've been around actual race boats my whole life and broke 100mph in stuff not much bigger. Legaly speaking it's registered as a home built, here you can register anything with 70% or more core replaced as a home...

    1975 115 2-stroke inline 6 WOT problems

If its sucking the primer bulb in considerably I'd be checking the pickup in your tank first. They usualy have a little stainless screen that can get clogged up. I like doing things by narrowing them down one big chunk at a time. I'd just rig a small fuel tank straight to the motor and then you...

Aftermarket epoxy coil that works so far

These old ignition systems are pretty forgiving when it comes to swaping stuff like coils. That's one of the reasons I like em. I had an old 100hp johnson at one point that was running a completely home made ignition with a car coil. Who ever did it got it to work reall nice aside from it eating...

Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

I get the foam and have nothing against it. It was just water logged and rotten when I ripped in to it. And I saw no point putting anything back since the space under the floor is so tiny there's no way it would float the weight with that motor.

Hunting Turkey w/o a license cost over $800

A little unrelated but I work for ford and I keep seeing people crack their tail light lenses on f150s then leave them to get water inside. If the truck has blind spot and cross traffic monitoring it takes out the sonar module with it. 4500 bucks our cost just for the light. One hell of a...

Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

She would be technically over powerd but in practice it's about right for a fun boat to run about. It does get some chine walk with just me in it wide open, and has a some weird characteristics because of that cup in the hull in front of the transom, I think the trailer was not the place to...

Insane good tower of power fuel economy?

So I just finished this boat up. 15 foot wildcat, but pretty light since it's all new core and transom without and old coast guard safety foam. Running a last year 115 tower and a 24 pitch laser 2. Runs 60 mph on the dot at about 5700 rpm even with a good cup in the rear of the hull. So it's on...

    Starter and choke issue

Now I'm really thinking on this. If it has the same helm controls as mine there will be a round rubber connector coming out the back of them that powers all your accessories and dash. Unplug that. The boat will still run and work fine without it for testing. My thinking is the power wire for...

    Starter and choke issue

If I'm understanding correctly and your saying with one probe on the chocke solenoid ground itself and one probe on the negative battery post you get 0.3v? With it energized of course? That sounds about right, there will always be a bit of resistance in a circuit, 0.3 volts in that run sounds...

    Starter and choke issue

Sounds like I high resistance problem somewhere. Especially since multiple systems on the motor are effected and jumping them solves it. Do you know how to do a voltage drop test with a multi meter? Because it's time to learn. Basically you will be reading voltage between two points on the same...

Tower of power polished cowl wrap.

The decals came off ok. A quick trick I've learnt other than the heat gun is to just hit them with some carb clean and let it sit 5 minutes. Softens them up reall good and they peel off. Of course it will also soften paint so only use it if your stripping it right down. I did finish polishing it...

Near new old 1996 Mercury 115

I don't know about American markets on these things. But up here in Canada clean older motors are worth something. I get about 1200 bucks for any old 70s or 80s omc 3 cylinder I've sold. And they go quick. I've also personally seen a bunch of mint 9.9s from as far back as the late 80s go for...

Replacement starter coils '58 flying scott 60

I saw your other post on this motor also. I wouldn't be surprised if those coils are still good. I'd be a lot more worried about the distributor set up on it. Points obviously, so wear items that might need replacement and be hard to find. Also the charging coil would be a bit of a concern up...

Tower of power polished cowl wrap.

I'm the same. The original plan was to just paint it and throw the 70s blue decals on it. Funny enough it's on a 1977 boat that's almost the same blue as the merc decals were back then. The decals on it were shot beyond saving, and trust me I tried to just tape them and touch them up. It gets...

Tower of power polished cowl wrap.

So far she's been a good runner but touchy. And I doubt that will ever get worked all the way out if it. I originally thought I got one with a pristine harness on it. But once it it got bouncing down the lake it's starting to show up that there is some hidden corrosion in there to find. One bad...

Tower of power polished cowl wrap.

So I went at this old girl that was already in surprisingly good shape for the year and decided I wanted it perfect. I went with Mercury's phantom black enamel paint and that side of it came out perfect. Can't say enough good about this paint being its from a rattle can, it laid out so smooth...

1986 115 tower of power cylinder wear

Awesome. I figured they would have put a rev limiter in there, but run up to about 1500 on the water muffs I can sit my drink on top of this thing and it won't go anywhere. So I figured these things would like to rev. Pretty damn smooth motor so far, gaskets come in Wednesday so all get to...

1986 115 tower of power cylinder wear

It is less oil. But we have come a long way since the 50s with our 2 stroke oils. When those motors were new they ran standard 30 weight oil in them. With the new 2 stroke oils you can run a bit less. I've actually tried running some old non detergent 30 weight in them at 16:1 and its a truly...
