    1973 StarCraft SS 16 Restore

I just completely re-did my roller trailer for my 18ft. I'd share pictures, but the site still seems to be having issues. I would have preferred to convert to all bunks if possible, but the way my trailer was set up, it wouldn't have worked. I did swap out my front rollers with 42" bunks, but...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

I feel like those are pretty reputable rotary systems. I'd just find a new cable if needed and call it good unless the cost of the cable negates the investment in a complete system.

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

I've been trying to post the last several days with pictures of the completed trailer, but with the photo issues on the site, I'm still waiting... Turned out great and I managed to single handedly leapfrog the 18ft hull back onto the trailer from the makeshift cradle I had fabricated. Got all...

Shoestring Starcraft SS160 Resto-mod - let the long slow road begin

Can't speak much on the pros/cons of the rotary v. rack and pinion, but I've replaced the steering on my last two builds with the 4.2 NFB rotary system from Seastar.

    1980 22ft SS V5 rework

Thanks! Are you finishing the backside of the hatches at all, or just leaving them raw? That's my biggest hesitation with doing my own hatches over the drop in ones...what they look like on the backside when opened. Probably a little OCD, but figured I could probably cover the staples and cut...

    1980 22ft SS V5 rework

Deck is looking really good! I picked up some prefab Tempress hatches for my front casting deck, but still may want to redo it for better battery access, etc. and have plans to add some sort of rear casting deck w/ storage/hatches. Interested in the clearance you allowed for the Nautolex, how...

    1980 22ft SS V5 rework

On another note...how are you getting your pictures to work? Did they fix the issue with the site?

    Decking Question

Properly sealed and cared for marine or exterior grade ply covered with vinyl will likely outlast the remaining life of the boat. Some of these boats are 40+ years old and the original decking is still holding up. Not trying to sway you from using aluminum, just consider if its really needed...

Tow Smart "Submersible" LED tail lights are junk... better solution?

I just purchased a bunch of Optronics LED submersibles for by trailer rebuild. Made sure they were all noted as submersible and hard wired with the separate ground wires. I went with the STL56/57RB for the tails, MCL13 marker lights in amber/red, and the MCL70RB thin line id light. I skipped the...

    Help with model ?

Looks like a Mercury outboard and Shoreland'r trailer which both fit the era. Either a 70's/early 80's Starcraft SS/Holiday, or a Sylvan as mentioned. I agree with the livewell drain, not often seen on the Starcrafts of that era, but could have been an add on or rare option as well. Likely a...

    1974 Starcraft 21’ Holiday

I've used the JB water weld and it works good. When I have a lot of holes to cover over flat surfaces, I tend to lean towards MarineTex and tape up the topside/visible side of the hole with some wax paper to reduce the amount of sanding needed. The JB you can grab and use as "kneaded" (see what...

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

Poly roller replacements are on the radar. The existing black rollers are still in good shape, so I figured I'd roll (no pun intended) with those for the time being. Between all the new hardware, hubs, fenders, rims/tires, etc., I decided to save the Benjamin for higher priorities. The ones on...

    Shoreland'r Rebuild

Yeah, galvanized or aluminum would be my choice, but this one came with the boat and the bones were still good for a rebuild. It lasted 40 years, so I should be able to get a few more out of it with the refresh, fresh water use, and garage storage. I went back and forth on the radials vs bias...

    New Journey

Update on the trailer rebuild thread (linked below in signature), and a little more fishing with the boys over the weekend while the second patch of paint was curing. Took a little weekend trip with the family over to WI.

    '67 Holiday 18' - Make it Usable

All my boats have sat much longer than I had planned as they await the various steps of the rebuild. I use to get all stressed on the progress and completion, but I now just view it as a hobby. Life gets busy and I see these days with my kids/family as time I'll never get back. Just keep making...

    1997 Mirrocraft 18' aluminum fish n ski

I've got the same issue with mine, but not sure exactly where the skeg will fall until I mount up the motor. The original motor would sit right on the ground depending on how the jack stand was adjusted. I upsized my tires and may replace my 4" rollers with 5" rollers, so hopefully it'll give me...

    1974 Starcraft 21’ Holiday

Great work! Of note, the heads of the solids might give you fits when you go to reinstall the trim. Might want to give it a test run beforehand just to make sure you have enough clearance. The heads of the blinds don't sit quite as proud, but I also recall having enough clearance on my 16SS when...
