Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

So doing some research. It’s definitely a marine carb, parts number directs to a Rochester carb for Mercruiser. Nothing actually written about retrofitting a card pre fuel vent. Found a picture where it seems fuel vent line connects to carb and where mine simply has a bolt in it. I’ve attached...

Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

I will have to see if it is possible to retrofit a fixture on the carb because, as it stands, there is no fixture to plug the vent tube that would come from the pump. I will study newer schematics to see where it is supposed to fit.

Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

Will do. I will have to locate where it is supposed to go on the carb as I do not see any fixture where the vent tube would attach to.

Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

1978 Mercruiser 140, serial # 3773776 I think the fuel pump I’m replacing must have already been replaced. Original schematics shows fuel vent only on engines after serial # 04460665. The fuel vent was capped off like this on old one. Ran for two summers like that, guess it’s ok?

Merc 140 fuel pump install, no ros?

1978 Mercruiser 140, serial number 3773776 Replacing my mechanical fuel pump and read a lot of references to an actuator “rod” that must up into position before installing fuel pump. I cannot find any such rod in my motor. (See pics) My engine seems to have an off round cam (?) type thing that...

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

Looking at it closer, I don’t think there is enough pipe protruding past the braided section to cut and re-flare. Gonna go with set up they figured out. Really no more joints and weight than old system, just looks different.

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

Got it. hey there, thanks for the reply. No, those won’t work. The place I went to has those. I need a 1/4 male to 3/8 inverted female pipe size, which is how they are listed apparently. As for threads, it would be a 3/8 thread, male, to a 5/16-18 female inverted, which is not made. I’m gonna...

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

I went to a huge hose and fitting shop, a warehouse with every conceivable fitting, and they do not have the simple, 90’ bend with a female end. Can’t find anything online. Brought all fittings and this was the only solution

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

Well marine supply had no connector so went to a hose and fitting place. No such thing as a 90’ to female. So this is what they put together. (Pic 1) Seems like a lot of weight would be cantilevering off the fuel pump. I wonder if I could have a pro cut the old coupling on ff and transfer it to...

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

No. The braided line supercedes the older version of the solid line. Got it directly from marine supplier, who’s been helping with all the parts.

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

1978 Mercruiser 140, serial number 3873776. Going from a solid line (see pic) to a braided line (see pic) New line needs nut to connect fuel pump nipple to braided line end. circled parts are different. I think I need a tube nut, or barrel nut, to link the two.

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

I’m replacing the OEM solid line (discontinued) with a braided line. Connectors are different. I think I need a barrel nut like this.

Name for connector “nut”(?) for fuel line to fuel pump nipple

Replacing aluminum fuel line with braided fuel line. Looking for proper name of the “nut” need to connect two ends. Green circled part is old connector. Red section needs to be joined by same sorta nut. Like an extended, wider nut. Trying to do a search with more accurate name.

Mercruiser 140 front mount looks odd.

1978 Merc 140, serial number 3773776 While doing a re and re on the mounts, noticed this. Previous work had a smaller spacer at the top end of the front motor mounter. This resulted in the fiber washer being jammed down into the mount housing, and the metal washer pressed hard against the mount...

    Hour Meter Wiring

Yeah, I get that if you wire it to the ignition that it will log false time if you have key in with it not running and that it’ll add the bit of time we run the fan and not the engine. But we can live with that. (It’s a 1978!)

    Hour Meter Wiring

1978 Mercruiser 140. Simple hour meter with two wires. Just double checking. Is One wire to ground and one wire to ignition switch correct way of connecting?
