    Transom trim on StarCraft 1970

I didn't look up the model. Lunch time was running out.

    Transom trim on StarCraft 1970

Let's of transom threads here. Look them up and do some reading. Some quick points though, you will want plenty of ppe. Tyvek suit, P100 respirator (preferably full face), disposable gloves, safety glasses, organic vapor filters for the respirator. It will be extremely itchy, messy, and fumey...

    Boat covers like Seal Skin

Definitely make a support structure. You don't even have to get snow, sometimes poles fall over, or just leave small pockets. Rain will fill them worse than snow, weigh them down, soak through the cover... I think bass boats are particularly bad about that.

I bought a project. On purpose.

Depends on the shape. If you're trying to make a strake, or radius on a body line, then larger to smaller is best. That way, your base layers are covering a bigger area of the damage, and you're just building out the shape with smaller pieces. Basically structural repair first, then shaping the...

    Deck repair for seats?

I like the raised base idea. I don't think I've seen that model, but tour core material is going to be the deciding factor in how you handle this. If it's wood, I would just replace the whole floor, assuming the stringers aren't rotten too (probably are if wood). If it's synthetic, like nida...

    Fiberglass thickness.

Transom looks pretty normal to me. If you would see any white or bright pink spots, that would indicate lack of resin or an air pocket and should be ground out. It can also look pink once it's getting thin, so just stop if you start hitting gel. The stringer structure was bedded in with resin...

I replaced the bolt on his trailer boat latch thing. I've never seen one so bad.

    Worth the divorce?

They can be fixed with glass. I wouldn't trust a plastic weld on that for anything more than a tiny crack or pinhole. Maybe on paper, but I don't think so. It seems to seperate worse than glass when taking damage. So a hit to smc will take worse damage than a similar hit to glass.

They're all made with something called "sheet molded compound". It looks a lot like bondo and chopper glass mixed together. They're made by injection molding. My supervisor has told me about it, but I've never seen it myself. Then SeaDoo started doing plastic outside, but there's still smc under it.

Probably just a way to save time. We usually like to fill the gaps with putty.

Looking at a 1990 Sea Ray 24’ Laguna Center Console, how to inspect a hull/things to look out for?

Honestly, after 35 years you should just expect all of the wood to be rotten anyway. Look in the engine bay and ski locker if it has one. Look at the condition of the stringers, motor mounts, and transom if you can see them. It should be pretty easy to tell if there has been water intrusion...

Sounds like resin putty with just a few other additives. Sure, try it.

For those stringers/motor mounts, measure the raised part and get whatever that comes out to in dimensional lumber. Then just rip the stringer part down to proper height. Epoxy resin doesn't work with csm anyway because it doesn't break down the adhesive used to bind the strands together

    Crack in Stringer

It's also a point for water to start working it's way into the wood, if it hasn't already.

    putting her to bed

I've seen plenty of boats with canvas covers be soaking wet inside.

    Boats from work.

You didn't spot my goof then. I didnt either until this morning. Edit: I just looked at the pics again. You can't see it without the pics of it before. In the first one, that tape under the red was supposed to be peeled off so I could clear down to the edge. Now I have to touch that up.

    Boats from work.

Sprayed the Ranger today. Stupid tape lifted on the last color. Beave touched up the fender freehand with a brush while I did the stripe on the boat starboard. My hand aren't steady enough to freehand that stuff, but the boat only needed a bit of touch up to the black, so I taped it up. It...

    Worth the divorce?

HIN for the Yamaha should be on the starboard rear, on the cap, right next to the pad. The SeaDoo might be in the same spot or under the rub rail on that side like a boat. 50 hrs, professionally serviced yearly, and problems with both already? The speedo is no biggie, but engine problems on the...

Clean out live well lines + water in the fuel tank

Can you pull the tank? I haven't had to do it on one of those, so I don't know how tight they're in.

    safety chain question

Oh yeah, well I once pulled our trailer about 3 feet before I realized the tractor hitch wasn't lifted. The jack was center mounted, and it bent the mount back. Had to get another side mount after that.
