Help - Boat Accident and Insurance

My take as one who loathes insurance companies is that if it would take $14K to buy a boat as close to yours as is possible, that is what you should be paid. You should never have to take a loss or shell out your own money to get back to where you were because of someone else's negligence in...

One of those days - Head meets wall.

In another entry of the John's #1 best selling book "Lessons learned". Yesterday, the plan was to cover the top surface of the aft full sheet of Nidacore with 1708 and epoxy. The underside had already been covered with 1708 with some Nidacore support panels put in place in some key areas. In...

Restoring 1975 glasply 2300, bilge question...

Ah, I love people willing to take up a challenge and be advised that it will be enjoyable. Itchy and sticky but in the end very rewarding. The people here helped me through the WTH stages early on in my rebuild 13 years ago. From what I have read, Nidacore is not an ideal material for...

    1983 Starcraft Islander

Myself, I would go this route. A bit of structural work involved but in the end, the OB option is more desirable. https://forums.iboats.com/threads/1979-starcraft-islander-i-0-to-outboard-conversion.438339/

Stratos 1850 CC Rebuild Part 2

When things start going back together!!! More pics... With the transom all tabbed in place and ready to reinstall the deck. The bilge, tanks bay and front storage are all painted and ready to roll. I am using 5/8" Nidacore with 1708 on the down side. There is a double layer of Nidacore in...

    1981 Springbok 18' Restoration/Renovation

The tank builds pressure in the heat. It was bad on my part to leave it connected all the time. Eventually the pressure will crack the diaphragm so when the engine runs, fuel also gets pumped into the crank case. That engine made a lot of oil when running.

I have an 8HP Tohatsu 4 stroke that had a fuel pump issue. Caused by leaving the tank connected.

It also comes from shamrocks and plants in the genus Oxalis. Ever eat a shamrock? Sour. That is the acid.

Wellcraft 210 Elite Restoration NEED HELP!!

<GULP!!!> Coosa 26 3/4" 4'x8' sheets were $373.74 for me with $250.00 freight. you were close to hitting the motherlode. Wood is fine enough, just have to make sure that it is very well covered. On my Stratos, I enlarged the drain holes at the transom between the stringers to 2" and the wood...

Wellcraft 210 Elite Restoration NEED HELP!!

You're doing great. As I'm late to the party, my only advice would have been to use Coosa. I missed a spot on my transom 13 years ago and just got a new Coosa transom in place. At the end of the day you can be very proud of what you've accomplished.

    1988 THOMPSON 240 FISHERMAN REBUILD

We were using AI in an R&D capacity where I worked right before I retired in June. It is a decent enough tool but not to be trusted completely. Myself, I prefer the interactions with mpallet? and others here who have seen trends and the evolution of materials through the years.

Bringing a bubble buster back to life.

So my bubble buster ended up with hardened epoxy on it. Everything says that you cannot soften cured epoxy very easily. Well after an hour soaking in lacquer thinner, it does get soft. My BB is now just like new and just in time for rolling out deck work.

Stratos 1850 CC Rebuild Part 2

Installing the transom. As I mentioned, When I originally reworked the transom, I had some thin air gaps between it and the outer skin of the hull. This time, I had multiple holes where I could use threaded rod and get much higher pressure between the new transom and the hull. Wooden shims were...

Stratos 1850 CC Rebuild Part 2

Time to LAMINATE!!! Using the alignment holes. I inserted 1/2" rubber tubing as I did the lamination. I used epoxy and 1708 glass between the 2 panels. It went very smoothly. Once aligned, I used 1 5/8" drywall screws and started from the center and worked my way slowly to the edge. As I...
