    No, that's the issue. Per the manual the cable is adjusted at WOT. If that's the case then there isn't any preload at idle. If adjusted for idle preload there isn't enough travel to reach WOT

    They used electronic and then changed to mechanical (strange). Very simple advance mechanism. I actually took C/D off and regreased. Throttle return spring is good. Nothing is binding, there's just nothing bringing C/D aft except for the throttle cable.

    1. Ignore the plugs, they aren't the problem 2. Pulling the outdrive is waaay easier than swapping the starter. Didn't see whether its a bravo or alpha, but still... 3. Didn't see how hard it is to turn by hand yet 4. Plugs out there should be very little load on that starter. 9.1v is low...

    Yes, good call, don't turn it like that. That bolt can snap. That said without plugs it shouldn't take much force (assuming you're in neutral). A few different ways to turn it, either by turning one of the accessory (alt, ps) pulleys, using a special tool, put a couple of bolts in the balancer...

    Actually gives me hope that the screws can actually do a decent job. Embarrassed to say that the plan for the bow is now new screw holes-->4200-->send it until it breaks again.

    Pics maybe? Ohm out the block-->battery neg to see if you're missing something. Bad ground could definitely get worse if it's hot. Either way, easiest/best thing to do is run a proper ground like AD said.

    So the batteries need to be grounded to SOMETHING or else nothing would work. If not the main ground strap, do you have a small wire connecting the harness or something? Can't imagine that any situation without a proper ground from the starter would work well for long.
