    old post but blown fuses are usually a bad/dirty ground connection, or a dirty post in the red plug harness (either control side or motor side). just clean everything and make sure you dont have too many 12v sources going to the accessory switch on the keyswitch.

    you will find there is a simple procedure to test the stator charge coils and sensor. did you replace the sensor with the new (presumably blue CDI) pack? I dont think the factory sensor works very well with the digital CDI pack.

    one of the easiest tests to see if its fuel or spark is to squirt premix into each carb at idle from a syringe or similar. if it increases rpm= fuel/running lean. if it pauses then dies, its not fuel.

    the synch n link procedure is very important for these motors! a 40hp usually likes right around 2.1 turns out from gently seated on the low speed needles. if the cam roller is either too far or too close (ie. jammed up against the throttle cam) it will cause running issues on the transition...

    yea ive had both gt100 and a bubbleback side by side a few times. 100% same porting. Its the exhaust, heads and carbs (1 3/16'') from an 88/90. pretty neat they actually did that, TBH.

    haha that doesn't sound good! No i just do a very light coat , and usually just on the firing/sealing ring surfaces of head and block. im in saltwater, so any tiny leak on the outside quickly gets fixed with "natures gasket"

    i do the diode test on an unknown motor anyway. super east yellows to ground both ways, then red to yellows both ways. high reading one way, none the other.

    it shouldnt take you more than 10 minutes with a DVA tester, coil extenders and a stevens st-77 load adapter to pinpoint exactly whats at fault! at the bare minimum a DVA adapter will do the job by process of elimination. make sure your pack is grounded properly, ditto for ignition coils. stop...
