    FYI resistance tests rarely show up out of spec on the stators charge and sensor coils. its the cranking voltage with a DVA that is truly useful.

    fyi there is a flushing adapter that changes out the exhaust plate just above the cavitation plate so you can use the garden hose. i do the bucket on these little over the hub lower units, but they are available. anything else will burn it up.

    what "VRO float" is he talking about? barring a bad temp sensor, if the alarm is going off or was and he disconnected it, id be making 100% sure its not overheating. if you pull the water hose going to one of the heads off, a huge rush of water should come out, and cool the head immediately...

    i was referring to the 4 screws to throttle body. i do remember a few manuals saying 25-35 in/lbs for the carb bowl screws, which seemed absurdly high. i just do them "comfortably" snug.

    the only thing that can take out a stator like that would be burned out rectifier diode/s. .2v obviously is nothing. are you sure its not reverse-polarity?

    I almost always skip right to cranking voltage tests . resistance almost never shows anything interesting for me, as a component will often test fine only to fail a cranking voltage test. Part of a complete and thorough job resistance should be done, sure, but on the other hand if cranking...

    id say take the head cover off, flatten the thing out with a hammer, and install a new t stat and grommet. id feel quite ill not knowing what shape it was in going offshore.
