    Yes the new starters are much lighter. I just replaced mine last week. It cranks very nicely and efficiently, if I may. It's half the weight of my original starter. 1985 Merc A1G1

    Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction. PMGR is short for Permanent Magnet Gear Reduction. What exactly does that have to do with an upgrade? Well, it means that when retrofitting the older positive engagement starters it provides a 50% weight reduction (8 vs. 20) and requires less cranking amps.

    Do you run your boat in saltwater. Looks like salt to me. If your outdrive came off easily that's a great sign that your engine alignment is spot on with your drive shaft. As far as the bellows goes, it couldn't hurt to change, as well as all the bellows.

    Stupid me, no oil

    Checking the oil is the first thing on my check list. The Bilge plug is second on my list before going out. I trailer my boat. PS - It wouldn't hurt to do a compression test.

    I tried out the topside paint on the rear transom today, it dries quick and looks pretty dam good. 3 coats. Let's see how it holds up.

    I have this same issue. I'm thinking of installing a boost converter. Or I just may try the 14 gauge wire.

    My Boat cut out when I hit a decent size wave today. Merc A1G1 3.0.

    The Cannon plug is tight, and I have a nice thick wire tie around it to keep it secure. I think it was my ignition cylinder, it was substantialy loose.

    The key ignition was loose. I tightened it up The next time I go out I'll see if that was the fix. Thanks everyone 👍
