What carb kit for a #1364-4929 Tillotson?

Are these still availabe, what kit number, and what all comes in the kit? I would assume that it does not include needle, seat, or float. Hopefully it has fuel pump gaskets, intake gasket, bowl gasket, fuel inlet gasket, and fuel inlet bolt gasket.

    '77 Merc Thurnderbolt 500 won't idle

OK, last year this motor started right up and ran well in the driveway. It started right away and ran smooth. Since that time I had removed the lower unit, and long story short, I took it to a Marine repair place. He reinstalled the lower unit and changed the plugs, but he asked "has this motor...

Just got my motor back today. mechanic asked if the motor had been sitting for a while.... LOL.... yeh, 13 years! He said that it sounds like my carbs need some cleaner run thru them. In his opinion, they will be fine once some is run thru. He also said that it needs run...LOL... ya think...

Bay manufacturing shaft extender kit, need info

I just found out that I have a Bay Manufacturing short to long shaft conversion kit on my motor. I also realized when I replaced the lower unit, that I have no reverse lock rod. My kit is a #408 and I have the parts list and diagram, it shows no reverse lock rod. If this were a T/T motor, it...

Need to know what trolling motor shaft lenth for a 16' deep V Sylvan Sea Master

Since I just got this boat and spent last summer rebuilding it, never having it in the water, I can't figure out what length bow mounted trolling motor shaft I need. I had read to measure from the deck where it would be mounted, to the water level, and add 20". There are some old marks on the...

Reverse locking rod is giving me the shaft! I thought that I was beyond this!

'77 Merc 500 Thunderbolt long shaft The motor is all together and seems to be running well... just not had it in the water yet. Installation of the reverse lock rod, '77 500 Thunderbolt

Can I install a reverse lock rod with the lower unit on? I got a replacement rod and I have the clevis and the pin, can I drop it down the hole and just put in the pin? I'm hoping that I don't have to remove the lower unit and put it up thru instead of downthru....

Starter question, maybe it just needs serviced????

The previous owner said that the starter would not stay engaged, it kicked out early making it hard to start sometimes. I found that the bendix shaft needed to be cleaned and lubed. I have however noticed on the wind down when I let the key go, it sounds like a dry bushing. Maybe I need to...

The Merc LIVES!!! Fired first crank after 12 years!

Installed my lower unit and water pump yesterday and put fuel to it today. After 12 years it fired on the first crank and was running on the 3rd! This thing sounds like it was just run yesterday! I'm going to run a rich oil mix for a few gallons, I'm running Quicksilver at 25 to 1 for about 2...

'77 Merc 500, need help with backup latch rod

I'm just about to fire this Merc for the first time in 12 years! Today as I was putting on the lower unit it was discovered that the backup larching rod is missing. I have had the lower unit off since last September so maybe I lost it...who knows! Question, I have the brass piece that mounts...

reassembling my lower unit, are there gaskets and what to seal on the lower pieces.

This motor is one of those Mercs that has the extension piece in the lower housing and the exhaust tube, its between the lower housing and the lower unit, probably 5" wide. The original exhaust tube was gunked up with red RTV to hold it in place, is this standard practice? The lower extension...

If starter works but then backs out and revs, what do I replace?

Would it be the "starter drive", is the starter turning too slow and needs replaced, or is it a benbix of sorts? I haven't fired the motor yet, but I know that was a problem the last time the last owner ran it, just trying to stay ahead of the game.

water pump rebuild, how do I know if parts need replaced?

I disassembled my water pump and obviously the impeller needs to be replaced. I was looking at the impeller cup and it has some slight groves in it, does that mean it needs to be replaced or is that normal. I would assume that the impeller, water tube O ring, the thick ring on the top where the...

questions about water pump and lower unit fitment, '77 Merc 500

I'm replacing the lower unit with a good used unit that looks to be the same, and I was told it would fit. The old unit was casting #1643-6037, the new unit is #1643-6458. The shaft is exactly the same and I swapped the bolts for my longer ones. Here are the questions... this unit has a plastic...

My Merc power cable looks bad, want your opinion

My red power cable looks bad and probably should be replaced. I think that the cable may have laid in the water before I started to restore the boat. The insulation is bleached out almost white and some of it is coming off. It may be good under the sheath that houses all of the cables. It looks...

looking for info on transom support brackets

I have a 50hp Merc, the original mounting had the screws driven into what looked like flat washers, of course they were dug into my wooden transom. I see T-H Marine makes an inexpensive aluminum transom support, problem is my bolts are only 7 5/8" or 7 3/4" apart, their bracket says 12". I am...

Transom replacement, ACX or marine, each coated with epoxy

My transon is (2) 3/4" plys, just when I thought that I had this all figured out, a boat builder threw a wrench in on me. His words of wisdom were that marine plywood is treated with some sort of an oil therefore any coatings will not adhere well. His direction is a good grade of ACX coated with...
