Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Also just out of curiosity, where does the water pickup tube actually connect at the power head? Is it somewhere under the starter?

1988 50 hp force no spark?

Im just saying that because I have the same motor and that is what happened to me. Bad stator and bad trigger. I didn't test it myself, I had a trusted mechanic diagnose it for me. I had figured it would cost more for me to throw parts at the motor than for me to pay the mechanic to diagnose and...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Ooh okay I see what you mean. Yup I'll be sure to be extra careful spraying that stuff in the future.

Yup copy that Chris 1956. However lack of spark does not appear to be the issue.

    50 hp high speed misfire

Okay I see, yeah the clymer manual definitely leaves a lot to be desired. Okay I see what you mean about the extended idling, but how long is too much? I maybe had it idling for 15 minutes at a time. Isn't the fuel recirculation system supposed to alleviate this?

    50 hp high speed misfire

Oh one time when I ran it after the trigger swap. Normal amount of smoke then. When I took out the next time I added the seafoam to help degunk the inside. Maybe a teeny bit more smoke then, probably the seafoam. This was two weeks ago. I didn't have any serious smoke like this until this weekend.

Oh okay yeah that's what I thought. I figured the color was normal but the volume was excessive.

    50 hp high speed misfire

Blue smoke is uh oh? This is a two stroke so shouldnt blue smoke be expected? Before the seafoam there was very little smoke. The fuel I was using did have some seafoam that I added just as a light cleaner and fuel stabilizer. The motor ran as if all it needed was some very slight adjustments...

Ahh maybe a whitish blue. Like when you do a seafoam shock treatment.

    50 hp high speed misfire

Wow lots of replies! Topgun, would the clymer manual suffice? Nordin, yup that's what I kinda thought. When I replaced the trigger, the new one came with the little arm. I just adjusted the new arm so that it was identical in length to the old one. Would a very minute difference result in this...

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Okay cool thanks Nordin! Yeah definitely it shouldn't shake and that fact that it does is it's current misfiring. Just seems like it bangs around without much cushion. If the shocks are cheap I will just grab some. I copy on the studs. Would a penetrating oil help loosen those?

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Okay awesome thanks Nordin! Speaking of the shock absorbers, how do I know if they are bad? This motor shakes pretty good at the moment due to a rough running condition I am addressing, but I feel like if there are shock absorbers then they aren't doing much.

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Yup that is what I am referring to. When I remove the power head, do I have to remove everything from the block? Including the flywheel and all the electronics? Or can I just unhook anything connecting the mid leg and the power head, and then remove the power head?

Big water leak inside cowl, any tips for this coming repair?

Hey all, So I developed a big water leak inside the engine compartment in my 88 50hp force. Pretty severe one too, I could see water flowing really good out from under my starter. I believe the blown gasket is what Crowley Marines diagrams call the "Exhaust Gasket", although it's the gasket...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Oh and as far as the factory setting, I did set the carb to factory setting and tune from there. This worked pretty well early on but as the idle began to worsen despite this, I was certain the carberator was probably not the issue. I did service the carb this year as well, except for the float...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Hey Cdavy I'm not sure I have a distributor like you are describing, unless you are referring to the ignition coils. Correct me if I am wrong though. I just don't see that in the diagrams for my motor. I will check timing for sure, I just need to have a mechanic do that as I don't have the tools...

    Honda b75 K1 or K2, carb help.

Hey matt, how would I check the float? I cleaned the carb but it has one of those sideways mounted float bowls so I wasnt sure about the correct position. I just didn't touch it to avoid throwing off any setting and blasted the float valve with cleaner and verified it wasn't stuck. I cannot...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Also, I had taken my boat out two weeks ago, and excluding needing some obvious throttle adjustments, the motor seemed to be running quite well. Smooth idle, decent throttle response, and only a slight miss at 3/4 throttle. At that time, I had only attempted to tune the carb by ear since I...

    50 hp high speed misfire

Okay Jerry, I did spray around the motor but did not spray under the ignition coils. I will try that. My carb was a bit loose which caused a reaction with the spray but I fixed that and this condition still persists. Also, I did notice the spark plugs were wet, not 2-stroke wet but flooded wet...

    50 hp high speed misfire

So I'm trying to get my 1988 50hp running right. I recently had to replace the stator and trigger and the motor is still new to me. I'm currently attempting to do a tune up according to the clymer manuel. It starts up fine and seems to idle okay. At high rpms it seems to misfire pretty bad...
