    Force Outboards Rated By Model

Okay, did the lower unit issue ever get fixed under mercury? Do they just wear out? Can failure be avoided? I have an 88 50hp so it'd be nice to avoid lower unit problems

Okay that's super interesting. Definitely going to avoid those. When were the 55s made?

    Force Outboards Rated By Model

Oh that's interesting. What is your reasoning? We did state earlier that the 70s are bad due the single carb. How about the others?

Maybe if I snag one of those motors I'll get a hold of good parts supplier and see if we can hunt down a good alternative. Maybe fine an imp. With the same diameter hole or something. There's gotta be some out there is hope.

Dang okay. How do the US marine force gear boxes compare to the Merc made boxes? I've heard the merc ones are better but is that true? If It is, what are the failings on the US marine gear boxes?

H Hmm, perhaps. I'll take it on a case by case, like I said I am in no rush.

Is there any truth to the US marine gear boxes being inferior to the Merc gear boxes? Is that even true? If it is, what are the failings and can they be avoided?

    Force Outboards Rated By Model

Okay that's interesting. I was looking for a kicker motor for trolling for salmon (I live in the Pacific Northwest). I figured the one I get should be able to take hundreds of continuous hours of running without pause. I saw a 5 hp force for $75 that I am considering, but the general force...

    Force Outboards Rated By Model

Yeah I was looking at those 70s in case I ever wanted to upgrade in hp. I thought it was weird that there was only one carb.

Yes my mistake, I was thinking of US Marine, not Brunswick

Since I have gotten my 1988 50hp, I've been doing a lot of research about these motors. Like many on this forum would likely agree, overall they mostly decent motors that have gotten a bad rap over the years. As far as I understand, this was due in large part to being marketed to entry level...

Need a Stator for 1994 Force 70 Outboard

Yeah I had to be very careful. Only reason I used eBay was because a new stator or from a reputable source would have been at least $300 for CDI and $600 for OEM. I like my motor but I'm not throwing that kind of money at it. I was especially sure that there was a warranty on the parts I bought.

Need a Stator for 1994 Force 70 Outboard

I ran into a similar problem with my motor recently. I had a dead stator and trigger. I ordered a stock trigger and a CDI stator off eBay. I consulted a couple suppliers to make sure I got the right CDI stator. It too had more wires than my stock stator. I think it's designed to fit multiple...

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

How do you mean? The operation of the control box seems the same with the motor off. Am I missing something?

Throttle and remote control linkage adjustment

Hmm okay. It seems my problem is that I cannot get throttle forward enough to fully open the butterfly. Is this perhaps an issue with my control box?
