Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Took the boat out today and the gauge worked great. My motor hovered between 110 and 135 the whole time. Still needs some finer tuning on the motor performance side of things but I'm happy I don't have to wonder if my motor is burning up a piston while I cruise to the fishing grounds.

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Got the temp gauge installed. Works pretty good I think. Motor seems to sit rat at 100 degrees at idle. I'll see how hot it gets while running today.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

Pumps nice cold water too. Just started to decarb as well. Nice to see it work now. I'm sure a proper carb and pump kit and this motor will really purr.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

The float seems to float well. It's a hollow plastic type. Looks level as well. Gave the carb another good cleaning. I couldn't get a hold of a pump kit near me so I have to order one. In the mean time, I took some lubricant and moistened the pump diaphragm which gave it some playability back...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

Yeah I wasn't sure how bad it really was, but I have another motor I'm working on that does have bad diaphragm and when I compared this old one to the other motors new one then I could tell.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

Okay, I guess I was refering to an initial air mix screw setting, but I'm gonna pull the carb again and do a deeper clean. The fuel pump is marginal too. The diaphragm is a little crispy. I'll double check the fuel bowl again. I know the float needle looked new

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

So I got the motor hooked up to fuel and water. Fires up but doesn't idle for long at all. What's a good carb setting? My initial thought is it's a carb adjustment issue.

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

That's a good idea I still have the ones they sent me. I'll see if they actually sent me the right ones. I noticed when I bought them off cowley, when I click on the mariner model, it automatically sends me to the equal model Yamaha. Maybe that has something to do with it. Better find some more...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

So I found some rubber fiber gaskets material and cut out some gaskets. They turned out pretty good I think. Put the motor back together using some light permatex sealant to help the homemade gaskets stick. I don't have my gas tank with me to fire up the motor but it did turn over with some...

Buy a 5hp Mariner with a blown head gasket?

Welp I got the gaskets in the mail. The two exhaust plate gaskets don't fit. Like they shrunk some how. Part number matches and everything. Perhaps I can find gasket sheet material that's a similar material and make a gasket for that.

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Yeah I'm certainly being a bit neurotic about it but I'm a new boater and I don't want to worry about my motor overheating without knowing after it's too late. A pressure gauge seems like a better idea than a tell tale honestly, especially since you have to look back to see the tell tale it...

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Oh sorry I didn't mention my motor doesn't have a buzzer. It may have a buzzer wire, but no buzzer. Not a bad idea though. I think I would like to know before it crosses that threshold however. Unless the temperature that sets off the buzzer isnt too hot to damage the motor?

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Great thank you for the info! Does anyone have experience with this surface contact style senders? How accurate are they? I would have gone with the plug style, but like many I have used the top water jacket plug to make a tell tale.

Ideal cylinder head temp range force 50 hp

Hello again everyone, So I just ordered a Faria temp gauge with the flat style cylinder head sender. My plan was to bolt it to the cylinder head so I can watch the temps to avoid overheating. What would be an ideal cylinder head temperature range to watch out for? Particularly the ideal...
