    Which coil to use?

Thanks. I have tested about 1/3 way. Is there a difference between HEI and regular coils?

    Which coil to use?

So the HEI designation is Bs?

    Which coil to use?

We are. We cannot get fire out of main coil wire with helm switch on. 12 volts is coming to + side of coil. Main lead should arc between spark plug contacts but no arc. We will rotate with our stb motor's working coil to further rule out coil. Motor has set for 4 years due to my health issues...

    Which coil to use?

My coil may have gone BAD. It says "Mercruiser" on the coil's body, but faintly. No other writing is available. It is installed on a an older 350/stroker carbureted motor using a MC TB5 ignition system. I believe a Chevy automotive internal resistor coil could work on the TB 5 but I am not 100%...

    1985 4.3l v6 mercruiser piston rings

Go to auto-machine shop with part. They should be able to sell you correct one. You will most likely need to hone cylinder and remove wear ridge too.

    for discussion

Living in NW Florida and having a boat for 65 years, I learned to never keep an I/O stored wet in salt water. An inboard is a different story.

    saltwater 5.0 weak points

That old of a boat and used in salt water, for peace of mind, I'd rebuild a 350 from a junk yard to a 6.2 and add close cooling (antifreeze). Pitch old salt water exposed iron.

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

Some gimbal houses do not have grease valleys (travel) and grease fittings. These bearings are sealed. At least my Bravos didn't have the grease fittings.

    Gear Oil In My Bilge

Indeed, and now most Chevy blocks can be welded by a PROFESSIONAL welder. I had 350 welded and it worked fine.

    Gear Oil In My Bilge

Have you tested transom for rot. IOs are bad about transom rot. Also. invest in a pressure tester.

    Gear Oil In My Bilge

If you have a lube reservoir, is it possibly leaking? Is boat fresh or salt water used. Do you have good compression?

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

My Bravos have lube reservoirs that gravity feed gear oil to OD. I don't think reservoir is sealed other than a cap, which has a hole in it so it can breath.

Another gear oil thread... 80w-90 vs. 90

I believe marine gear lube has some additives not found in std automotive gear lube. Maybe not... I'd stay with marine and what manual recommends.

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

There was, but the sea spray overwhelmed it, including coil/TB4. Too small... Flame arrestor was protected by a larger aluminum U channel and was not overwhelmed. After I shielded coil/TB4 with small plastic tarp, I never had ignition/water related problem. After I pulled OD for yearly...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

My old Sea Ray was a wet deck boat and I'd get lots of spray. Spray would leak down between motor hatches and transom. I even had it short out a coil. I added a shield to eliminate the short and then noticed how gravity made the spray drip on coupler shaft. I pulled OD and could see daylight...

What reason causes the water leaking into gimbal bearing house?

My old Alpha1 leaked there. Seal was crap. I replaced and never had an issue. Just saying...
