Weight distribution hitch didn't fit trailer rails

I rent a trailer a couple of times a year to haul my skid steer which is a total weight of about 9k including the trailer. Now and then all the electric brake trailers are rented out and I have to take one with surge brakes. I have not noticed any difference in my ability to stop between them...

tilt wires getting hot during lift?

I had a 1968 with the stringer drive and never knew about that. Never used it that much and it still is in the back of one of my garages. If I ever decide to use it again I will keep that in mind.

No Power Master power switch Lund Boat

Look around the battery and make certain that a smaller gauge red wire than the motor feed is not hanging loose or connected to the negative terminal. Usually there will be a least two wires connected to each battery terminal or possibly three if you are wired for a trolling motor off the...

    Boat identification

Yes, most every country requires HINs. But is very complicated as the MIC is an ISO standard so duplicates numbers may be on two different boats. Importing boats from any other country than Canada can be complicated. I once a while back helped a lady trace a boat she bought in Dubai, last...

Asking alot of a little outboard. best prop pitch?

I would invest 10 or 15 bucks into one of the "tiny tachs" to just check out what rpms you get with the present prop, When I got my present boat I installed one primarily as an engine hour meter but checking it out I found that is was surprisingly close to my shop tach and more expensive tach...

    Fish Finders

I just recently upgraded. Before I did I went to various makers websites and youtube and brought up simulations on my computer and changed sizes so they would match the actual size. Found out that even my 84 year old eyes could read a 7" screen at the distance I would be away from the unit in...

Adding temperature sender to '97 Merc 40

I would use the tan wire to install a warning buzzer and add a water pressure gauge. Both have their good points. The pressure gauge will let you know the general condition of the cooling system. If you notice the gauge is consistently reading lower than when the impeller was new you will...

'80 Chrysler 45hp Pivot Tube Seized

I use this tool on equipment fittings with hardened grease in them. Fill with mineral spirits or other solvent and tap with hammer. There are cheaper versions. If you have a friend that is a farm implement mechanic, farmer or into construction equipment borrow theirs...

Topping off a compass, what to use?

Don't know what the fluid is but if it is a Navy gimbal compass this is what was used on all the pivots. Only kept in stock on one ship in the whole base so every time we needed some we would have to send the new guy across the base to get it.

We were at the oldest daughters' house years ago and she was vacuuming the rug with a Hoover sweeper and set off a 22 cartridge. Something stung my wife on the calf of her leg. We never figured out if it was the casing or the bullet. Just a red mark and not enough shape to it for a definite...

    Steering cable slips

Does the motor turn smoothly with the cable disconnected? Was it connected with the wheel in straight ahead and the motor the same way? Are there any sharp low radius bends in the cable?

    1964 Sears parts diagram

Any chance you can post a picture? Is it on the control box for the throttle and gear shift or on the dash? I can think of a couple of things it could be for but would just be guessing. What is the motor on the boat now? I know with a picture or two someone on here can tell you what it is...

    1964 Sears parts diagram

Elgin was a brand name used by Sears on it's marine products. Just like the motors many different companys made their boats. As JbCurt00 said a parts list never existed for those boats even back when they were built.

    1964 Sears parts diagram

Model number and/or horsepower would help. Sears sold motors back then from 3.5 to 45 horsepower and not all made by the same company. The first 3 digits of the model number will identify the maker.
